The ogre was tearing down a badly damaged part of the wall. It would have to be completely replaced. The ax he swung tore through the wood. He was venting his anger in his work. There was something that put him on edge. He was eager for violence and he didn’t know why this emotion had come over him. He was barely conscious of the people around him. “Nichtmar! Nichtmar!” yells a boy running towards Nichtmar.
Nichtmar doesn’t hear the boy. The boy a few feet behind him.
“Nichtmar!”
“What!” he snaps at the boy.
The boy frightened, and confused at Nichtmar.
Nichtmar shakes his head and kneels down to the boy.
“Sorry boy, angry at the enemy. What is it?”
“Uhh uhh, there’s a man by the docks, dressed weird.”
He arrives to the docks seeing the body of Masamune. Unaware if he lives or not he takes him to the physician. He puts him on one of the many gurneys that fill the main hall.
“Another one,” says the physician.
“He lives?”
The physician checks his breath. “He lives.”
Nichtmar commands, “See he stays that way.”

Elestirne gently but firmly restrains Baethor as the dwarf suddenly regains consiousness and lurches into a sitting position. "Easy friend dwarf. You will be allright. I have healed you as best as I can. Your wounds were grevious. You are fortunate the others found and brought me back in time to see to them, else you might not have survived. I saved your life. You shall be sore I deem, but you will recover. Here."
Still restraining him lightly with one hand Elestirne brought forth a flask of water with the other and held it to Baethor's lips. As the dwarf drank she added. "We must speak of what has happened here and what happened to me but it can wait until you have rested a time." She looks up as Nichtmar muttered about 'cleaning up' and watched the ogre stride off. Her clear grey eyes clouded with worry before she returned her attention to Baethor;taking bandages and herbs from Olore's pack and carefully and dutifully applying them to those wounds of the dwarves not yet fully healed,as a precaution.
Olore touched his muzzle to her lightly. I am going to look around lady. Call me if you need me. I will call for you if you are needed. See to your own wounds now. The other dwarf can watch Baethor.
Of course my friend, Elestirne answered. Go. Let me know if you learn anything.

The silver stallion wandered about the town, taking in its state. Much of it had survived but, though the silver stallion found bodies everwhere,he saw no sign of the demon or the surviving members of its forces. Where had they all gone? To rejoin to Telemachus-and perhaps Grish'nak-so that the next attack hit harder? Olore did not like that possibility. The town was off its guard and disorganized from the first attack. A second would catch them completely unprepared unless they mustered their forces and sent for aid immedientally. That would be difficult.
Olore snorted. Once Baethor had recovered enough strength to stand his lady and the leaders of Mittelmarch had to talk. She needed to know what had happened here and they needed to hear what she had to tell. As he moved towards the edges of the town-towards the river-he saw someone carrying a burned, but recognizable form. The windwalker..Tatsumura,Olore recalled. The one the stanger Kotaro called Lord. How had he gotten here? A boy rushed past him,not noticing the stallion, and moments later returned with Nichtmar at his heels, who also did not see him.
He stayed still long enough to see where they carried Tatsumura to then followed;calling out at the same moment;his sending clear and commanding. Kotaro! You must come! They have found your lord by the river. I do not know how he got here but he is badly burned and hurt besides. Collect my lady Elestirne along your way and tell her my words. I deem they will need her healing magic, though I regret having to ask her to draw on her stength again when she still has not been able to see to her own wounds. Look for me. I will be outside the place they have taken him. Bring the dwarf Baethor too. I deem the time for talk is come and we all who know something should be together to share what we know-and prepare for the next attack.

Kotaro jerked his head up the instant he received Olore's call. I'm on my way, he replied. Stuffing the collected items in his pouch, he ran quickly, but without sound, back to the camp.
He came up to Lady Elestirne and Baethor. "My lady, Olore says they have found my lord Tatsumura. He asked that I bring you and Baethor to him. We will need your healing magic again, I'm afraid. Would you both please follow me?" Having delivered the message, Kotaro turned. We're coming, he sent to Olore.

After a few hours of watching over Baethor as the dwarf rested,Elestirne's head snapped up abruptly, her night-dark hair falling back from her fine-featured face;clear, grey eyes narrowing then brightening as she felt a familiar touch in her mind. There were no words in the message but the sending was clear nonetheless. Olore was calling her. She wondered why he had not spoken to her, then realized, with a trace of amusement, that he had not sent the call to her alone. And there was only one other currently present which could understand and speak to him.
It was with unsurprise then, that she saw Kotaro hastening towards her where she knelt. He had left some time before, while she had been healing the dwarf. Hearing his approach long before he got close she rose gracefully and turned to face him, listening to his words attentively;her eyes sharp and keen. She nodded slightly when he was finished.
"I know. I felt the sending and thought it might have been meant for you if he did not speak to me directly." She looked critically at the resting dwarf. "He should not be moved much, but Olore is right that the time for talk is come. I doubt Baethor will thank us,but you must carry him. I cannot. As for the healing...Olore would not have asked unless it was truly needed. I still have strength to spare, though I hope your lord is not too badly injured. Come now." As Kotaro lifted Baethor Elestirne sent out. We are coming my friend. Where are you?
In front of the great hall, the stallion returned. That is where they took him. Nichtmar went in with them. I have not seen Zaron. Be swift my lady.

Kotaro grunted with the effort of carrying Baethor, whose large frame far outweighed the ninja's own. "Lead the way, my lady."

It only took them a few minutes to arrive at the main hall,Elestirne guided by her connection to Olore. They found the silver stallion waiting, looking for them. He inclined his fine head towards the door. Beckoning to Kotaro,Elestirne strode inside.
Quickly, she took in her surroundings. The great space was full of wounded in improvised beds. Her keen eyes immedientally picked out Nichtmar and another,at one of these. In an instant, she had joined them and was surveying Tatsumura gravely after thanking Kotaro for carrying Baethor and directing him to set the dwarf down on a nearby bed. Her eyes narrowed. "Interesting..."she murmured softly, intrigued by what she saw.
Tatsumura was burned, and rather badly at that, but other than that his wounds seemed minor. In fact, aside from the burns,he seemed to have hardly any wounds at all. Strange...
Shaking her head,Elestirne focused on the task at hand;calling again upon her healing power. The magic came slower to her summons than it had earlier, due to her weariness, but the silver-blue light glimmered with its usual radiance when it shimmered into being between her hands. Falling into herself, she examined the fallen mortal again, carefully, and noted with relief that this healing would not take nearly as much effort or stength as Baethor's hand. Good, she thought to herself as she began her work.
In a few minutes she stepped back;taking her hands away from Tatsumura's body, the soft light fading away,as before. Before her,he lay completely healed-no evidence of burns remaining aside from a few isolated patches of reddened skin.
The elven-queen nodded, satisfied. It had been a much simpler task to heal Tatsumura's burns than it had been Baethor's near mortal wounds. And yet...there had been something odd about the burns...she shook her head slightly and returned to the present. "I have done what I can. There was something odd about his burns...they looked to have been caused by magic-perhaps in his batle with Telemachus-and his own magic seems to have protected him from them becoming fatal. When he wakes,he can tell us." Her gaze shifted briefly to Baethor. "And we will need to learn of Baethor what happened here, and I will tell of what I know. Then,I fear,we must prepare for attack."

Nichtmar puts his back to a wall and sighs as he slides down to the floor. He takes a drink from his water skin.
He wipes his chin and says, "Kotaro, get Zaron and Baethor, they should meet this man."
Nichtmar falls asleep there on the floor.

Without a word, Kotaro left the hall. He knew where Baethor was - right where he left him, on a nearby bed - but he wasn't sure about Zaron. Stripping off his mask, he began asking the few remaining townspeople if they knew where the warrior was. Unfortunately, none of them did. Good Olore, do you know where Zaron is most likely to be? The townsfolk do not know, he sent to the stallion.

Masamune opened his eyes to the view of a roof. He quickly realized that he was inside, but where. As he looks around, he sees the people he helped in the mountains. Apparently, they had made it back safely. He noticed the troubled look on Nichtmar's face, the exhaustion in Elestirne, and the fatigue and worry of the others that lay around him.
Masamune sits up slowly, rubbing his head, paying no heed to the fact that his weapons lay several feet away from him, or that his clothes are more burned rags now then articles of clothing. He looks around, and then catches a glimpse of the figure that just happens to leave, knowing it was Kotaro.
"Seems you all managed to make it back."
Masamune continues to rub his neck, followed by a loud crack, and a expression of relief.

Olore's silent laughter echoes in both Kotaro's and Elestirne's minds. You can help me,the stallion said, amusement coloring his tone, by ensuring that my lady does no more such healings-or at least,by trying to dissuade here from healing any others in the same way. I say that she has done quite enough for Mittelmarch for the present,by healing Baethor and your lord-more than they could have expected of her-and it is time she see to her own wounds and regain her strength, for they will need her in the battle to come and it will help little if they let her become exhausted from healing. I know she wants to help, but she must not tax her strength. I will come in there myself if need be.
At this Elestirne actually laughed, the sound beautiful to hear;like bells chiming in a soft wind. Her grey eyes sparkled briefly and a half-smile touched her lips momentarily. Doubtless you would, she returned. But I have no intention of doing any other healing besides my own. They can see to their own well enough.
Adressing the others aloud, the slender elven-queen explained. "My exalted friend has just reminded me-rather pointedly-that I have done enough healing of others and must not tax myself further,as I still have my own hurts to tend to and shall need my strength. And he is right,as he always seems to be." Olore's snort of agreemeent could be heard clearly. Again Elestirne almost smiled, but refrained.
She watched Kotaro go out in search of Zaron at Nichtmar's instruction, then saw the ogre himself fall asleep against the wall between Baethor's and Tatsumura's beds. With a soft sigh, the elf got a blanket and spread it over Nichtmar, then returned to watching over Baethor and Tatsumura. I will stay here. Olore, help Kotaro. And..try to find Strays and Storm also. I have not seen them.
I shall, the stallion answered. She felt him depart. A few minutes later movement caught her attention she turned her head from surveying Baethor to see Tatsumura stirring and sitting up,rubbing his head. Her melodic voice was grave as she answered his statement evenly. "So it seems, now that you are here." She regarded him solemnly;her eyes piercing. "My stallion says that you are called Tatsumura and have a strange magic at your call. He also mentioned that you can communicate with and hear him. In case he did not mention my name,I am the Lady Elestirne." She paused a moment. "I give thanks for your help against the orcs, but a dark elf managed to intersect us and steal me away despite the time you brought us. I was the one that healed your wounds." Her grey eyes flickered briefly. "There is much we must talk of when Nichtmar and Baethor wake and the others rejoin us. I fear there will be a second attack soon."
She called to Olore. Tatsumura is awake Olore. Have you and Kotaro found Zaron,Strays and Storm yet?
While waiting, she turned her attention back to Tatsumura, and the sleeping Baethor and Nichtmar.

I shall,Olore answered his lady. No more than a second later, the same request came from Kotaro. The silver stallion shook out his long mane and leisurely trotted off. I come,he sent to the warrior. Odd that his people cannot find him but I will help as I may. My lady asked me to. It was the work of a few seconds to locate Kotaro.
Soundlessly the stallion came up behind the mortal and touched his shoulder. We should start at the practice ring. He might be preparing for the attack to come. If not there...perhaps the river and the docks. I am not certain. But one finds only by looking. Come.
With a snort,Olore moves gracefully past Kotato lead the way-looking back only once to make sure the warrior followed him. Within a few moments the two had come to the practice ring. It seemed deserted, but Olore's keen eyes picked out a figure moving away from them. He points his muzzle for Kotaro's benifet. There, that tall one, with the bloodstained armour. He is Zaron. He does not see us. You best catch him.
The stallion raised his head suddenly,as though hearing a call from afar off. His lady's voice filled his mind. Tasumura is awake Olore. Have you and Kotaro found Zaron, Strays and Storm yet?
Olore snorted softly and answered imedientally. Zaron we have found but not Strays or Storm yet. Bending his fine head,he adressed Kotaro. My lady says that your lord is awake. You should catch up to Zaron. I will wait here. Then to his lady again. We will come when we can lady.

Kotaro nodded thankfully and went to Zaron.
"Lord Zaron?" he called to the figure. "I am Kotaro, vassal to Tatsumura Masamune. I ask that you accompany me and Olore back to the main hall. The lady Elestirne says we have much to discuss before another attack comes."
The figure turns and nods silently. Returning to Olore, Kotaro gestured back to the hall. "Shall we?"

Olore considered Kotaro's question solemly when the warrior and Zaron reached him, then shook his fine head negatively after a moment;his long mane rising then falling along the crest of his arched neck in a cascading ripple like a silver waterfall. His deep eyes held both mortals in their unreadable gaze but only Kotaro heard his words.
You may go back to the hall. You know the way. If not,Zaron can direct you. We have found Zaron but my lady asked for me to try to find the other two of our party-the youngling and the knight-and these I have not located yet. I shall try to find them as I promised her and then I will rejoin you and the others at the hall.

Very well. We shall see you shortly, Kotaro replied, silently this time. He turned to Zaron. "This way, sir." With nary another word, the two warriors walked back to the main hall. When they reached it, Kotaro went to Elestirne. "I've brought Zaron, and Olore will be back with his charges shortly." His task done, Kotaro went to Tatsumura. "How are you feeling, my lord? Not too badly, I trust?"

Elestirne turned as the door opened and Zaron and Kotaro came into the hall, making their way over to her and the others. She nodded slightly, briefly,to Kotaro at his explanation. "He should not be long. If he finds them,he will come. If he does not find them,he shall still come and perhaps they shall find us. Whichever way,Olore shall not be gone long. When he returns and Baethor and Nichtmar wake then shall we speak of things that must be spoken of." Her gaze shifted back to Tatsumura. "But perhaps,if you will, you can tell us what happened between you and Telemachus after the wall's collapse took you from our sight while we wait for Olore to return and the others to wake." Her melodic voice was soft and kind. "If you wish to rest however we can,of course, wait for the tale."
As she waited, the elven-queen put a slender hand to her side and closed her eyes momentarily;the wounds there paining her again as the toll of the double healings caught up to her. Focusing, she brought some power forth, but only a small measure;conserving her strength and energy. Silver-blue light glowed faintly through her fingers briefly, then faded away as she let her hand fall away from her side. The wounds were not completely healed but the poison and pain were gone and they would cause her no more trouble. She nodded to herself vry slightly, contented. If there was any need, she could bind them later-if they would even need it.

Olore wandered the town after Zaron and Kotaro left him, evenb going outside the borders;searching for Storm and Strays. He was unsure where the two had gone but he knew they could not have gone far. He knew too, that Storm would watch over Strays and keep the youngling safe and that the knight himself was cabable of taking care of himself. The silver stallion was not too worried if he was not able to locate them. If he could not,Storm would likely know to ask one of the townspeople where to find the others and be directed to the great hall,or he and Strays would come there without needing to ask.
With a snort, the stallion turned back for the hall with a toss of his head and a swirl of silver mane. And,failing either of those options surely Storm would know to look for or ask of him;knowing that, where Olore was to be found, his lady Elestirne was certain to be nearby. And that, where the elven-queen was there, likely, would be found the others as well.
Within no longer than a minute Olore had arrived back at the hall. The graceful silver stallion thought about going inside and joining his lady and the others-there was no reason he should not, after all-but then decided that it would be much easier for Storm and Strays to the others, and him,if he was easily visible. Besides,he added to himself-amused-his coming into buildings seemed to upset people for some reason he could not fathom. The elves of his lady's realm did not seem to mind as much, but they were used to him. Men in comparision-particularily strangers meeting him the first time-seemed alternately shocked, upset or surprised whenever he showed signs of wanting to come inside a building other than a stable. Perhaps it was a custom of theirs...Olore did not understand what reason or purpose it might have, but he would wait here outside the hall. He could still hear what was being said, and he could see his lady. Besides, this was a place full of the sick and wounded and both of those needed rest. Olore knew there was a good chance he would disturb that rest by his unexpected presence and that he did not want to do. So he stood as a statue just outside the door;ears turned to the conversation inside, deep eyes scanning the area as his mane and tail blew in a soft breeze.

Masamune looked up at Kotaro.
"I am well Kotaro-sama. Just a little sore, but I will be fine."
He turned his head to notice the hall filled with the sick and injured. He could hardly believe that this many people had been injured, but yet, so much of the town remained untouched. They must have been aiming for the people, wishing to leave the town intact for some dark reason. Tatsumura motioned to a young child to bring over two empty buckets. He held his had over them, and as they began to fill with ice, he spoke.
"In Rokugan, the winter is seen as a time of both death and despair, but also a time of renewed hopes. Though the cold can easily take a life, in the spring, it helps to replenish the life of the land. And helps bring ease to those that need it. Break this up, and make sure to give everyone some to help ease their pain."
Masamune turned to look back at the group as the boy turned to head off to complete his task with a slight smile at the strange man that gave this strange gift.
"I am not completely sure what had happened myself. I remember fighting the maho-tsukai in the tower, then awoke to shards of rock being blasted at me. We both were falling, and exchanged blows at one another. Last thing I remember was a giant ball of fire coming at me. I launched shards of ice around it, but I do not know the effect of my counter-attack. I managed to surround myself in ice before his attack hit, but I don't remember anything after that. Next thing I know, I'm waking up here."
Masamune notices the she-elf favoring her side. He formed a small block of ice in his palm, wrapping it in a nearby cloth, and then holding it out.
"Here, place this on your side, it will help with the pain."

Elestirne listened intently as Tatsumura spoke and was nodding slightly as he finished;his words having confirmed something to her. "That is why you are alive then and why your wounds are so minor aside from the terrible burns I healed-burns which I thought looked strange but could not explain why I felt so. Now I know why. 'Twas your power which saved you and which kept his attack from harming you further. And,with you here,my suspicion that he too survived has more merit than I would wish it to have and does not bode well for this town and its people."
The elf paused a moment;grey eyes thoughtful. "However, with no way to predict what will or may happen we can only take things as they come at this moment. Among my kind winter is called the season of fading, and seen as a necessary and vital part of nature in the keeping of life's cycle. Without winter, spring cannot come. Before renewal and rebirth, there must be the fading;before the new comes the old must be before it. Thus it has always been. Winter is a season of death and despair it is true but it is also a season of remembrance and the promise of what is to come. Now matter how cold, bitter or long the winter always a spring will follow it. But many think only of the death and despair and not the promise of spring."
Politely, she shook her head as Tatsumura held out the ice to her. "The pain is gone. There is only the memory of them. They will finish healing on their own. All things come in their own time." She paused considering her next words. "And perhaps, with only the four of us awake now it would be good to learn more of one another, who are strangers to each other."

"Among MY kind, the winter is a time to rebuild, stick close, and drink...so where the hell is mine?"
The dwarf says gruffly shifting his weight to stand out of bed, nearly falling before supporting himself on his bed, looking around he finds his axe nearby and sets it down, holding the top and using it to support him like a cane, hobbling his way over to the group, approaching Tatsumura and Elestirne, focusing on Tatsumura for now though.
"And who...are you..." The dwarf grunts, some of his bandages begin to stain red.

Masamune looks up at the dwarf as the ice that was in his hand seems to fade after hearing the fair lady's words.
"Who I am is a story that would take far to long to tell you. But for all intents and purposes, I answer to the name Tatsumura Masamune. I found myself in these lands while returning to the lands of the Silver Phoenix clan, and seem to have become involved in a war that I have no understanding of. Tell me, how long have the drow and orcs infected these lands?"

Olore's snort was clearly audible as Tatsumura finished speaking., and a moment later, the stallion's head appeared framed in he doorway. He did not enter but his thoughts reached Tatsumara clearly. It is good to see you well and awake windwalker-named Tatsumura. Your vassal Kotaro was most concerned, and the others were worried as well despite my lady's conviction that you-and the dark one-had survived the fall. As for your question, we know perhaps little more than you or Kotaro-for we were brought here by a strange mist and are not sure why we are here. But we know,at least, whose is the side of of the good and right and my lady and I are determined to help as we may. It is her nature to help, though she much prefers peace to war and would rather not be caught in this now. If you would learn what we know or suspect, ask of my lady what she learned-or has begun to suspect-from her...captivity-there was a distinct tone of anger to that word- ...by the dark one. And ask also of the dwarf-Baethor is his name-of what has happened here while we searched for my lady. Only then may we be able to glean answers we desire and... 'pieces of the puzzle fall into place' perhaps,as your kind says.
Then,as an afterthought, And you might thank her for healing you of your wounds. She took of her own strength to draw on the power to do so. It is why her own hurts have not fully healed yet. A brief silence then,to both Tatsumura and Kotaro. I give thanks to you windwalker, and to you Kotaro, for your aid in recovering and finding my lady. It means much to me. With that,Olore withdrew his head and resumed standing at watch.

The dwarf grunts and hobbles his way back to his bed, using his axe as a cane. Sitting down and sighing before looking up at Tatsumura. "One more of our company...Taos...E' was our historian...i lost sight of 'im when we were attacked attempting to take the lady here to the black gate. But i know enough, to know that the orcs have been in these lands for hundreds...maybe even a thousand years. Every couple o hundred or so, one o' the bigguns get the idea to try and take o'er the rest of the land. The one were dealing with now, is named Grish'nak...but Grish'nak is different...E's a smart orc, One that knows strategy...Telemachus and K'nar are in his service....The dark elves...Dum'Elgi in my tongue...They shouldnt be here...Grish'nak must have hired them...The bastard...
The dwarf spits onto the dirt floor, as a small boy brings him a mug filled with a liquid, the dwarf gives it a sniff and grimaces "Jes' water boy?" The boy nodded "Lord zaron said to not give you more alchohol until your wounds heal..." The dwarf laughed and nudged the boy off "Get me some of me own stock, the drink will cleanse me from the inside out!" The dwarf chuckled and began to drink down the water..
