The story of Maxamis Slay, 3rd Captain of the Death Guard
Maxamis Slay grew up in the evil times of the world, the part of the world that burned. His father a thief, his mother a whore, they lived off of lies and trickery. The ways of the Norse god Loki. When he was born his father left him, and his mother unable to feed him and herself cast him aside into the darkness. He laid in the pits screaming for days, his body needing the nourishments of food that was not given to him. But as fate would have it he did not die. No the child of death found him. Mortarion. Mortarion cared not for Maxamis when he found him, but instead of casting him aside to die, he took him in, fore Mortarion was not capable of having sons and he felt pity for the child. He took him in and raised him in the way of the Death Guard.
Years passed and Maxamis grew, he was not the strongest, fastest or even the wisest, but what Maxamis had was courage, he rarely backed down, even in the face of a enemy line. He became skilled with the sword and shield, but Mortarion could easily disarm him, the same with Typhus. But Maxamis learned, he watched and learned from the other Death Guard, he still learns.
Years have passed since the day Mortarion found him in the ravine, and since then Mortarion died a natural death. It saddened Maxamis but he moved on, accepting the pain and burden. The man who replaced Mortarion was Mortarion right hand man and the most wicked of them. Typhus. Maxamis did not trust him but acknowledged him as a leader. Typhus promoted Maxamis to command the 3rd Death Guard battalion. Giving Maxamis the rank of Captain, the battalion had 100 strong men, each of them ready to die for honor and glory.
After a year of being Captain, the call for battle was heard from the lord of the lands and the Death Guard answered. Typhus led his 5 battalions to the 5th Great War. Maxamis commanding the 3rd Battalion could not help but think that they only had 500 men. There numbers where small but there skill was great. Arriving to the battle they had expected allies but instead saw their allies slaughtered, spread across the battlefield by thousands of Orcs. All species of Orcs, from the common orc, to the fighting Uruk Hai. But the Death Guard did not run. No. They never ran, Typhus stepped out front, his mighty Scythe in his hands as he roared the Death Guard battle cry.
"Kill for the Living! Kill for the Dead!" And with that the 5 battalions charged. Crashing into the Orc lines, kill countless orcs. Maxamis fought great that day killing many orcs with his sword. Then something he had not expected happen. An Orc chieftain stepped out to the battlefield and ripped the head of Typhus free from his body. Maxamis was close by roared a challenge and charged, but the orc was to fast, swinging its mighty club, hitting Maxamis across the face, knocking him out cold. The orc thought he was dead. Stupid creature it should have stabbed him, but once again Fate had another plan for him.
The battle ended and the Orcs left, thinking they finished the job, Maxamis awoke about a day later and saw the destruction of his kind. He mourned for them, the loss of his brothers was heartbreaking, but he could not give up, he would not give up. Grabbing his sword, the sword of Mortarion, he vowed to avenge his brothers in battle. He buried the great warriors on the field, but could not bury them all. But vowed to return to finish what he started, Maxamis then kneeled at Typhus's grave marker, he said. "I am sorry for what I thought of you. You were a great man." He stood up and left.
Years later Maxamis set up camp in the dark woods. The fire was warm and the food smelled good. He then heard something, something not normal. Grabbing his sword he walked toward the source of the noise quietly but was ready to fight if the noise was a threat, stopping behind a tree he sneaked a peek around the tree. What he saw was something he did not expect, a Man in shining armor of green and white fighting 4 Orcs. Alone he stood fighting them, almost playfully, dancing past their attacks with ease and just barely injuring them, as if he was playing. The mans name was Athron of Eryndor. Maxamis stood there in awe at the mans skill, almost as if Athron glowed with light. Maxamis stepped out walking toward him, a lone Orc seeing him turned away from Athron and charged Maxamis, Maxamis did not draw his sword. Athron called to him, and that snapped Maxamis back to reality. He drew his sword, hacking the Orcs left arm off, he spun around the orc and decapitated it with a single blow to the neck. The other Orcs lay dead at Athrons feet.
Maxamis, deciding to travel with them fore he had no particular destination in mind he tagged along and learned about their cause. Up until recently Maxamis decided to join Eryndor and their cause, normally sticking around close to Athron and Linwe for they were the ones closest to him. Traveling with Eryndor he met many other warriors of Eryndor. Some of them were the Senegal’s Finest and the Imperial Guard. Both excellent fighters and Maxamis watched them fight and try to learn from them. Hoping one day he will be strong enough to avenge his fallen brothers the Death Guard and hopefully revive the once great organization.
