With the sudden movement of half or so of his allies, Denendir looked around and saw shadows move fast, he heard with his keen ears the footsteps that pounded the ground, smelled the smoke for which flowed far from where it started. Glancing around he saw the door swing open of the wagon, Telemachus and Elestirne both coming out from the inside. Seeing Storm pull slightly his blade out into the open, Denendir tensed a short bit before holding his composure.
Denendir felt the presence of an old friend flying overhead. He called out to his friend hoping he would hear him. "Aflax, dear friend, I have need of your services, something grave will happen to those you watch over if something isnt done."
Coming down from the canopy above, Aflax landed upon Denendir's shoulder before saying, "Fires burn and weapons clash, forest trees are being cut down. People run screaming in fear. What have you of me?"
"I ask dear friend, gather up the forest animals and have them tamper with the Jovian Armaments and siege weapons, be sure they cannot be used. Steal there food and tear up their camp. Be sure to use the bears as your main force, followed by the cougars and jaguars. Weasels and snakes make the mischief, Be sure to help Tatsumara in any way he needs. Use your mindspeech with him", Mindspoke Denendir.
With a quick caw from his friend, Aflax, the hawk took high into the sky and headed in the same direction as Tatsumara and the Shogun. Reaching out to Tatsamura, "Friend, I have your forest dwellers coming to help. Bears, Cougars, Snakes, Jaguars, and more. Aflax the hawk is the leader, talk to him and let him help. They have protected you as I have for years, dear friend."
With a quick glance at everyone, Denendir bent low to ground and began to feel the soil and howl. He was answered by many calls from all around the woods. Elven ears picked up the many feet glancing against trees and the such to find a couple pack of wolves were surrounding the entire area. Growling slightly 10 or so of the wolves arrived behind Denendir, striding up next to him, though no one else was able to get near. Denendir looked over to these guys, petted them lightly and spoke in clear tones to the others, "I would advise we stop the bloodshed. I see truth in both sides here, but Please stop this senseless killing. I wont stand for it, and if you dare challenge my power, you better think twice"
And with that sentence Denendir started to glow an eerie color as a form of yellow fire surrounded his body and flared up 2 feet above him, engulfing his body, his eyes glowing a golden color, no white or black were seen in them. Trees all around started to blow as if wind were getting ready to gust up. Vines all around started to grow constantly til the touched something then started to grow on it.

Shouting to the Elvin Guard of Elestirne’s, “Men, please get your Queen out of here!”
The Jovians start readying the wagon. Then Masamune appears with his threats and his rage. Telemachus doesn’t fear him.
“Your war isn’t with me, samurai. It doesn’t matter if you believe me, but I had no idea they were attacking you as well. You must see, this is a feint, but there is nothing you can do now, but protect your home.”
Masamune takes off towards his keep. Telemachus ignores the other samurai, knowing he’ll do his duty and follow his leader.
Then another Man steps forward. Wolves come up apparently under his spell. Telemachus whispers a few words in Evlin that releases them of their spell. The wolves return to their instincts, they see men, and run off into the woods. Telemachus steps up to brave animal talker.
“Don’t be a fool…” The Jovian commander requests forcefully, “Sir, we should go!”
“You are right, we should go.”
Telemachus turns to the wagon and gets in, they take off. He reaches out to Elestirnes mind.
"I am sorry..."

Eyes staring at the carriage as it leaves, seeing Elestirne just standing there. Looking to the others and then to Lady Elestirne.
"We must get back to the Kyoden, Tatsumara will need our help!", Denendir said before lowering himself to the ground on one knee clutching his head and making painful seethes of air noises before slowly breathing again.
"So many have died, and more injured. Please let us not delay.", Denendir said.
While kneeling he set his head back, his eyes went a putrid black. Thunder clouds began rolling in and the wind blew them in the direction of the Kyoden. He cawed very loudly. A small group of large avian birds flew overhead and descended from the canopy to land on the ground, he stood up and sat upon one of them staring out to Elestirne.
"Lady Elestirne, your friend, Tatsumara is in trouble. Would you have me stay here and guard or be off to help him? Things may not go as planned and I would greatly increase the outcome of this battle.", Asked Denendir before adding a little extra for her, "I have slipped a small talisman inside of your cloak, it is a way of communication with me in a way that is slightly better and faster than mindspeaking. I can appear in front of you as a person in two places, but its lasts for an hour a day Im afraid."

Elestirne's eyes widened with alarm at his words. Telemachus had a measure of foresight? Interesting.. Dread crept in her at his words of betrayal of Mittelmarch from within their own ranks..who would? And her friend..sustained by Telemachus? He would die if she tried to heal him? That was a disturbing thought.. "Life ,may be like music yes,"she said at last, watching him warily. "Or like a tapestry. But it is not for us to determine where we will fall in the notes of the song, nor how we will be woven in the tapestry. But when our time is come,we can at least leave graciously and not cling to life." She stiffened at his mention of the weapons being in her hands, and still more as a sense of unease prickled her mind, almost not hearing his final words as he rose to open the door;Olore retreating only grudgingly, with flattened ears and curled lip. As Elestirne slowly emerged she caught swift movements. The three guards had started forward, only to be waved off by the sorcerer. And the reason was that Masamune was standing feet from Telemachus, hand on his sword. A swift blink was all the startlement she showed outwardly but inside shock numbed her. Masamune! What in the name of heaven and earth was he doing here... Suspicion struck her. Olore.. did you..? Yes. And I will not apoligize. We met and had a private conversation last night, whilst you and young Storm were spreaking. I have no power to forbade his coming. He is your friend too,and you are his guest and ally. An extra pair of eyes never hurts. And we have more pressing things to worry of. I will explain later. Promise. Elestirne started to retort, but then tensed the same moment he did. Her keen ears picked up the sounds of many movements, many footsteps,a rumbling through the ground. Which could only mean.. She whirled on Telemachus at the same time as Masamune-coming to the same conclusion-did. Her silver eyes flared but she was distracted from speaking as the leader of the Shogunate abruptly took off as fast as he had appeared, after barking some orders. Kotaro swiftly mounted Thalon and raced off to Mittelmarch. But a sudden foreboding in her heart told the elf-queen he might find the city attacked as well. What was going on? The hiss of steel and movement alerted Elestirne to other problems. Storm and Authion had both drawn their swords and leapt to her side-presumably to defend her if Telemachus or the guards attacked. "No!!" Her voice rang out commandingly, clear and piercing and brooking no arguement. "Sheathe them!" "But My Queen! He..the fiend.. I cannot just.. I swore.. My Lady!" "Sheathe. Them. Now." Her voice cut against Authion's protests sharply and almost coldly. The firmest tone she ever had used with either him or Storm. "Please. Trust me." She sensed their hesitation but knew that they trusted her and that they were obligated by their separate oaths. She relaxed, just minimally when she heard the swords slide back to their respective sheathes and almost she breathed a sigh of relief. She watched the byplay between Telemachus and Denendir with bated breath, wondering if the sorcerer would strike him down. When he did not, she breathed relatively easily again., and spoke softly but urgently. "Enough. This is not the time nor place Denendir. Desist." She flinched, pain chasing itself across her features as Telemachus's parting words reached her via mindspeech. That he intruded on her thus without permisson did not sit well with her. She watched him climb into the wagon and be gone;knowing this was not the end of things. Undoubtedly,he would find a way to touble her again and they would cross paths again-likely after she had recovered the amulet. If she did. She shuddered;wincing at both that idea and the knowledge that if she didn't do something people would die. More than those that already were dying. She looked to Denendir, her voice firm and clear but sounding strained. "Go to the Shogunate. Help Tatsumura and my warriors. You will be of more use there I deem then where I am going. We can keep in contact through the mindlink Lord Denendir. I..." here she hesitated slightly;her face taking on a drawn, almost haunted look. "must go to Mittelmarch."
Feeling suddenly drained and weak, she sank to her knees;pressing one slender hand against her temples with a wince of pain..

Stepping off of the Avian called forth, Denendir bent down slowly to pick Lady Elestirne up and slowly calm her with a hand on her head soothing her temples, he sent a small portion of how he felt at this moment to her directly. He knew she would feel a slight tinge of Love or Admiration coming from him as well as strength and an animal bond.
With this he drew her hands into his own, giving a slight kiss of his own before saying, "I will be only a mindspeak away, Lady Elestirne."
With that said, he got back onto the Avian, said a couple words in Old Elvish, then took flight into the canopy. Soaring into the sky wind brushed past at immense speed, but he knew this was the only way to reach the Kyoden Walls the fastest.
Denendir reached out to Wolfsblade, "Brother, are you there? If you can hear me, be ready, for I am on my way to the keep. It is going to be under attack. I need your help, will you help?"
Meanwhile back at the opening... Faux winnied a little bit before galloping over to Elestirne, leaning its head against her, she nudged Elestirne's hand towards the saddlebag.

Storm exhaled deeply and put away his swords. He watched as the wagon left and cursed in Solamnic, then turned to look at Elestirne and supported her as Denendir left. He looked to the large avian and then back to Elestirne.
'What am I to do? My lord has instructed I take care of my oselle, but I can't just stay here and let my new brothers and sisters die,' he let out a sigh and looked down to the lady, 'but I have been given an order by the shogun and I must follow it, even if it goes against my own code of protection.'
"What are your orders oselle? I have been instructed to protect you and that I shall do." Storm said with little enthusiasm.

Quickening his pace, Denendir knew he must arrive at the Kyoden very soon or things would get out of hand for his new found brothers. He knew Lady Elestirne might have me command the warriors, though they might not due to the fact the she was Elven Royalty to them and they didnt know him that well. Denendir's Avian friend flew with this small group to the edge of a clearing, looking down Denendir saw what was a frightful sight.
So many Jovians marched in columns and battalions towards the Kyoden. He saw archers preparing to fire upon him, He rose higher and higher into the sky and before to long he knew he was safe for now.
"Brother WolfBlade, I will seek judgement on the Jovians for the crimes committed, yours I have no quarrel with if you prove that their is still Sanity and Good within yourself. Your magic and Mine should be of great help to M'Lord Tatsumara. So be ready I am almost there." Denendir mindspoke to Wolfblade.
Denendir thought to himself on how to get the rest of the elven army to follow him while their mistress was heading somewhere else for the time being. "Milady, how will I be able to command the elven unit? They know not of me but save I am of elven royal blood."
Denendir softly talked in the ear of the Avian, it cawed a little bit before diving down to just above the treeline, the rest of the avians falling into place.
Denendir waited for her call.

Authion waited for Denendir's answers to his inquiries. After a few moments he threw an anxious glance to the wagon but Olore's form obscured his view so that he could not see inside. Instead he gleaned clues from the silver stallion's bearing. Olore stood easily. His ears however were laced half back and his tail swished across the grass from time to time. There seemed to be no threat though. He glanced back to Denendir, then to Kotaro,Storm and the Jovians at the fire. All his nerves were strung tauter than a bowstring and he kept a hand near the hilt of his sword;his fingers flexing.
His gaze swung back to Olore and the wagon at the stallion's disgusted snort;noting him pawing at the ground. Almost,Authion thought of contacting Olore's mind but refrained from doing so at the last instant. Olore spoke to you only if he wished to be heard and mind-mind sharing was restricted to he and Elestirne. Authion did not want to know what would happen to the one foolish enough to contact the stallion in such a familiar manner without permisson-especially when Olore was irritated.
The knight-commander forced himself to stay still, but he watched the wagon tensely, with bated breath;knowing that whatever was being discussed must not be to Olore's liking. And if it wasn't to the stallion's liking... He better not hurt her. If he does...so help me..
Authion strained his ears, but picked up nothing save the softest, melodic murmur of his queen's voice. She was making sure none could hear. Ashamed for even trying to eavesdrop the elf-knight tried to divert his attention and focus on other things, such as wondering why Denendir did not answer him. Thinking perhaps that the elf-king might not have been paying attention the first time he started to revoice the questions but stopped abrubtly as he heard the wagon door opening. He turned, hand gripping his sword, and watched Olore grudgingly give ground. The muscles of the stallion's neck rippled and his ears were flat against his skull, his lip curled. Taking the cue,Authion tensed as Telemachus emerged from the wagon first;looking anxiously for Elestirne. She emerged a moment later. Beneath her carefully nuetral expression the elf-knight detected that her face was drawn, pale even;with faint lines of tension and worry marring her fine features. She seeme unharmed..but..upset. Troubled. What had the fiend said to her?!
Swinging an accusing gaze of loathing back to the fallen elf, the knight's blazing gaze widenened in astonishment as he saw the lord..Tatsumura?, facing down Telemachus. He glanced to his queen but her face reflected some of the same shock. She was just as surprised by the appearence of Tatsumura as he and the others. Save Olore,Authion noted keenly. The elf heard the hot words the mortal lord threw at the sorceror before barking orders and leaving. Kotaro rushed to Thalon and was off at full gallop. Authion hoped the elf-horse would continue to honor the temporary partnership. Hearing the rumblings that signified the movements of many troops and watching the face-off between Denendir and the sorcerer-noting the wolves, glowing and manipulation of nature-then, looking to his queen, Authion wasted no time. Drawing his sword with a strong oath,he sprang to Elestirne's side-who had not moved in all of this-and noted Storm doing so as well with approval. Authion fell into a battle-stance, the edges of his longsword flickering slightly. His gaze slid from Telemachus to the Jovians;daring any one of them to try and approach hostilely.
He almost dropped his sword in shock though,at Elestirne's command-and it was unquestioningly a command.
"But My Queen!" he protested hotly, urgently. "He..the fiend.. I cannot just.. I swore.. My Lady!"
"Sheathe. Them. Now." Her voice was firm-almost curt-and carried some urgency with the command. "Please. Trust me." This next command was softer, more gentle and carried a note of strain. Authion glanced at Storm, who seemed to share his misgivings, but they both reluctantly slid their swords away. Authion though, clenched his hands into fists at his side and swore colorfully under his breath in his own tongue as he watched Telemachus climb into the wagon and be gone. He heard Elestirne's orders to Denendir and, at her words about having to go to Mittelmarch, wheeled on her in astonishment.
"My lady! You cannot be serious!" Whatever else he had been about to say he forgot as he saw that she had gone to her knees;a slender hand pressed to her temples. "My queen?" He started to assist her on instinct but backed away as Denendir alighted from the large avian he had called to lift her back to her feet;wary of the magic he had seen the elf-king wield. As Denendir returned to the bird and flew away and Storm took over supporting Elestirne Authion came back close to his queen's side, looking at her with deep concern. He spoke low and urgently. "Elestirne, my lady. We must know what the fiend said to you. What is wrong? Why must you go to Mittelmarch? Did the fiend hurt you at all? Please my queen, we cannot stay here much longer."
Olore came up then, touching his nose to Elestirne's cheek lightly and projecting his thoughts to both Authion and Storm. Do not question her so. Let her recover. Telemachus has given grave news.
Instantly contrite, Authion backed off,but put a hand gently on his queen's shoulder and waited for her to speak;still yearning to go after Telemachus.

Olore remained unruffled as Tatsumura appeared before Telemacchus and challanged him. He knew-had predicted-that the part spirit would do so, though he was glad that Masamune refrained from striking the sorcerer or any other hostile action when he caught sight of Elestirne also emerging and instead made an effort to speak calmly. Authion, however, standing with Denendir between the wagon and the fire ,was clearly seething. The stallion dearly hoped he had enough sense to not do anything. His sculpted ears pricked and flickered as he picked up the sounds and movement of troops before any others but he stood rock-steady throughout the ensuing bustle of activity. His starry indigo gaze remained riveted on Telemachus though, even after the sorcerer had disappeared into his wagon and gone. It does not end yet...
Before the two had emerged he had touched the minds of the horses-particularily the elven war-steeds-ordering that they stay still and do not come running and adding to the chaos. Unquestioningly, they obeyed;recognizing something higher than themselves or their masters. To Thalon ,after Kotaro had taken the stallion and ridden off to Mittelmarch on Tatsumura's orders, Olore imprinted the need to watch over, fight for and help the human in whatever he needed. When he had recieved the elf-horse's confirmation, he returned his mind to present events.
Elestirne had gone down to her knees with a hand on her temples and he understood why, for the strain of what they had been told, the sudden chaos of movements and the wind-walker's appearence,Telemachus's unwelcome touch on her mind.. Olore shook his head. He kept his distance unil after Denendir had raised her to her feet and flown away to the kyuden on her orders. With Storm now supporting her, the silver stallion came to stand with Authion on her other side, touching his muzzle to her cheek lightly and giving the elf-knight a look of reproof. Projecting his thoughts to both him and Storm he said, Do not question her so. Let her recover. Telemachus has given grave news. Instantly Authion ceased his worried queries and waited, as did Storm.

Elestirne felt Denendir come towards her and lift her back to her feet after takng her hands and kissing them briefly. She listened to his words and those of Storm and Authion. She looked at him with surprise at the slight love and admiration she was picking up from him but did not have time to dwell on it before he had gotten back on the avian asnd flown away. She sensed Storm's inner turmoil and empasized with it. She leaned against him briefl;glad for the support and reprieve as she tried to sort out the recent events and her tangled thoughts. Feeling Authion's hand on her shoulder and Olore's touch on her cheek, she winced briefly, her hand going back to her temple, as she staightened to her full height once more.
She placed her free hand on Storm's shoulder and slowly dropped her hand from her temples and looked from him to Olore and Authion. "No I am fine. Or will be. Do not worry Authion. It has passed." Her voice sounded strained, but it was clear and gained strength as she continued. "Now listen to me. Both of you. I ordered you sheathe your weapons for a good reason. One of my friends is bound to Telemachus by magic and it is the sorcerer's spell which sustains his life. If either of you had hurt Telemachus you would have hurt him. Possibly have killed him." She looked to Storm. "It is Nichtmar whom is bound otorno. It is why he turned against Mittelmarch in the battle with Grish'nak-he was under Telemachus's control. I would heal him..but according to the sorcerer if I lift the spell he will die. Telemachus, apparentally healed him of a fatal wound the year before you and I came to the land.
"And there is more...Telemachus has foreseen that Mittelmarch will be betrayed by one of its own-and a friend of Nichtmar if I glean Telemachus's meaning right. And I foresee that if the kyuden is already under attack-regardless of if Telemachus had a part or not-Mittelmarch will be as well. If it is not already. I need to try to get inside Mittelmarch's walls and get Azoth's Gate out of the city before the Jovians find it. Or, at the least warn its keeper in time for it to be hidden. Authion, I know you will say it is dangerous but I am quite used to danger and the Jovians cannot be allowed to get the amulet when they already have the sceptor. And I will not be able to ge back into the kyuden. Otorno, I know you worry for your new brothers and sisters and would be there to help and protect them but you will not be able to get through the Jovian lines now. You would be killed,or taken captive. As your oselle and your Queen I will not permit it. But I do not want to put you in a position you will not like,or danger you cannot get out of. I would avoid harm to both of you."
She sighed, her silver eyes thoughtful and pained. "If I ask you two to stay here out of harm's way and let me go alone neither of you would listen I know. But I cannot expect you to come with...Olore and I can get through the lines unscathed..but you two?" She looked at both of them gravely. "I cannot order you to stay from my side, but I cannot expect you two to risk yourselves so I can get into the city. I would have your input on this before I give my idea." A raised hand cut off Authion before he ever spoke. "Storm first. He has more at stake." She fixed pained, piercingly bright silver eyes on him. " Otorno, we have not much time."

Post by Arashi Okami on Apr 8, 2009 21:56:36 GMT -5
The kyuden had been mostly quiet for some time. Most of the other daimyo and the Shogun were gone. Though Okami was the only one from the Shogunate with a high position left, it meant next to nothing. Not that she cared. If her journey had lead her here, why should she fret over such a thing. She didn’t dwell much on this thought, there was still much to do around the kyuden.Just the normal actions of keeping the kyuden in order kept her busy. The children always want her to play with them and others just wanted to share words every once in a while.
It was on these rounds that she heard a sound. Deep like thunder, but above her there was not a cloud. She made her way up a staircase along the outer wall. Other samurai were at the wall already, they too had heard the noise, and it was just getting louder. It sound like a beast was moving through the forest, and as she watched the trees beyond the wall, they shook. Cries erupted behind her as fear rose from those inside the walls. They were not deaf and could hear just as well as she, though some could hear better as she remember that some of the elves were still in the kyuden. Then she saw them. An army of Jovians, ready for battle and waiting for their orders.
As she pondered on what to do, she noticed the gates to the kyuden open. Though he moved fast, Okami knew her Shogun had returned. Running off the battlement, Okami ran to her room grabbed her naginata and armored up. She rarely wore the armor, but it made her feel a little safer. Finishing, she dash out to the gate, right behind Tatsumura-san. He moved towards the front of the samurai gathering outside the wall upon his horse. Glancing up, she could see the archer in their positions, bows at the ready, their first arrow in hand. The few samurai at the kyuden formed up and Okami moved to stand beside Tatsumura-san. Sitting upon his horse, Okami noticed his eyes focusing on something in the distance. As she looked she saw the Jovian commander head their way. What could he possible want?

Storm looked to Elestirne and then back to the direction his shogun had left. He looked down at Elestirne and smiled.
"Well knowing me, asking me to stay out of a fight to protect my home is like telling Olore he can't be your mount anymore." Storm said with a smile, patting Olore's neck in jest.
"But oselle if you wish to go into Mittelmarch on your own with Olore, then let me take Authion. He could do well to lead your elves if the need arises, because it is not your fight. That is what I choose to do oselle, now the question is whether you permit it?"

Hearing the words of WolfBlade, denendir responds, "Most are readying for battle, they probably have forgot, Brother. But I have not. I am entering the compound now."
Lowering the group of avians to the ground of the courtyard, he looks around. Seeing that all the shogunate were in a scramble to arm themselves. He called to all archers and spearman that wanted perfect angles above the Jovian Empire to strike at them.
"Any whom wish to get a closer eye on our enemy and strike back I have commissioned my Avian friends here. They have protected the forest for quite sometime and will help those who fight against this force that destroyed their forest.", Denendir said with a loud voice to echo on the walls of the kyoden.
"Messenger!! Seek out the box for which WolfBlade was under strict rule to be watched over and to not leave. If you will.", Denendir asked with a bow.
Upon waiting for the messenger to return with the box, Denendir cast a quick glance to all whom were watching. He pricked his finger on a black rose brooch he carried on his clothing and slowly poured a drip of blood into the key hole of the box. "Awaken, Brother WolfBlade. To arms we must be!"
Denendir backed away and regathered those whom would ride the avians. He then got abroad one and took off into the skies.

Masamune turned his head to Okami, nodding in her arrival, and motioning for her to follow him towards the center of the field. With out looking to the side, he speaks to her.
"No matter what happens here, I am honored to fight beside you. If I fall, make sure to save the villagers."
The two slowly trod across the field, finally meeting the commander and his flag bearer. In the distance, Masamune can see the full force before him. At least 1000 infantry, at least a dozen catapults, but their doesn't seem to be any infantry. If their are any archers, they must be hidden amongst the lines. Masamune quickly realizes a simple truth. The only hope his warriors have, is to try and hold the Jovians off as long as possible, and take as many as they can with them.
The Commander speaks first.
"You, Dragon-son!! By order of his Emperor Dracus Thrawn, I order you to drop your weapons and surrender. If you do not, you will all die, and your village with be leveled."
Masamune sat there for a silent moment, looking at the commander.
"This is not possible. We do not surrender, especially to invaders that attack our home unjustly and without cause."
"So be it!!"
With that, the commander turns around and makes back for his lines quickly. Masamune turns to Okami, motioning to return to thier own lines.
"They never planned to except a surrender....we must perpare."
A few minutes later, the two sat at the front of the line of samurai. In the distance, they saw the catapults being loaded. Masamune turns to face his warriors. He looks up at his village, which seems to have for the most part emptied out. He notices that the elves that came with Lady Elestrine are nowhere to be seen. Good, this was not their fight, and it would have been wrong to involve them. He looks over his warriors. Some are younger then others, both men and women filling the lines.
"Samurai of the Tou Fuu Shogunate!! We go to face our deaths!! And though we die, we will honor our ancestors this day!! May the memory of what we do on this field never be forgotten by those that follow, and may we be honored when we reach the gates of Yomi!!! Bushido no tame ni!!"
With that the samurai drew their weapons, and released a battlecry that could have very well shook the heavens.
The first volley of catapult fire came quickly after. The stones fell short of the lines. It would take only moments to reload and readjust the distance. Masamune dismounted his horse, sending it off the battlefield. He held out his hand, Murasame appearing his hand. He motioned forward, and the samurai followed. Across the field, the Jovian infantry began to move. Two sperate regiments made their way acrossed the field. They marched in a phalanxe formation, shields locked together. Breaking that line would be a major task in and of itself.
Masamune said a prayer to his ancestors, and to the kami, asking for the strenght to protect his people.
As the two moved towards each other, Masamune noticed something strange. The catapults had not fired a second time. It fact noises seemed to be coming from the rear of the Jovian lines. It sounded like animal noises, but whatever it was, the sight of one of the catapults crumbling to pieces did not go unnoticed.
Then the second sound.
Both armies stopped when they heard it, the sound of a thousand birds, all singing at once. It was a beautiful sound, unlike any that anyone on the field had ever heard. Then the sudden realization of what it was hit the Jovian's flank without warning. What sounded so beautiful, turned out to be a volley of elven arrows!!
Out of the forest line, Elestrine's elves marched out, their silver and jeweled armor shining in the moonlight, as if an army of glass had just appeared. Then it happened again, the same beautiful but clearly terrible sound, and the Jovian lines were hit in the flank again. A elven horn was blown, and a group of elven calvary exploded from the trees, heading towards the confused flank of the Jovians. The Jovians attempted to wheel left to perpare for the charge.
Masamune watched as the formation fell apart as it tried to reposition. With that, he let out a loud cry, and charged at the Jovians. This was their chance. The without the shield wall to stop them, the samurai could use their disorganization against them. Just as the samurai hit the line, Masamune thanked the kami and his ancestors, that elves would be to proud and honorable to have listened to him.
The clash of the samurai and the elven calavary against the Jovaisn was made worst only by the aerial support of magic and arrows thanks to Lord Denedir's avians, and thier riders.
As a friendly reminder, the events taking place right now are the events leading up to the fall of Mittelmarch.

Olore's ears flattened, not appreciating the jest, but recognizing the warrior's need for humor in this situation.
Elestirne's expression grew grave and her silver eyes sharpened, narrowed as she asessed her oath-brother. "No I could not stop you from protecting those dear to you. I have learned that. And if the fight had come to Artanor you would do exactly the same as you wish to now:help." Her face grew uncharateristically grim. "If you are saying that you can get to the kyuden without getting hurt, or found by the Jovians..." Something like agonized uncertainty chased itself fleetingly across her features. Then go. But go swiftly and with care. You are dear to me and you know what will happen if you should be hurt or killed otorno." She gazed at him solemnly. "Normally I would not ask this of you, but, given the situation...swear that you will be safe and not risk yourself unduly? For my peace of mind?" Her gaze shifted to Authion. "You as well."
Authion obediently knelt instantly and swore in elven gravely, kissing her hands at the end. As he rose he could no longer contain himself and spoke. "Why the formality my Queen?"
"Because I need the reassurance old friend," Elestirne answered. "I cannot bear the thought of losing either of you and you know what it would do to me if I did. If you are oath-sworn to stay safe, I will rest easier." Her piercing gaze swept back to Storm, her eyes pained. "Swear this otorno and I will let you go to the kyuden to aid your brothers and sisters. Find my elves. They might listen to you if no one else. You have my authority. If they do not want to risk themselves it is well and I understand for it is not their fight. But if they do wish to aid Tatsumura, let them brother and join them. I trust you. Let them know you come from me and reassure them I am safe and well looked after. I will rejoin you two when I can. But only you go to the kyuden Storm. Authion goes to help your lord Kotaro and look after him. The distraction and chaos he creates will help me to accomplish what I need to."
Taking Storm by the shoulders and raising him to his feet after he also knelt and swore she gave him a kiss of blessing on his forehead. "We have the pendants brother and so, are linked. If you need me, or need orders..call to me and I will answer. Go otorno, and be safe."
With a sorrowful gaze she watched him bow, mount his horse and ride off for the kyuden; not bothering to mask the pain and worry she felt at sending him into danger and away from her side. My elves will watch over him,she thought to herself as a means of alleviating the guilt.
They will, Olore reassured. Now we must ride. He projected this to Authion as well, who nodded and whistled for Mornaur. The stallion came galloping immedietely.
"And ride swiftly," the elf-knight said, swinging into the saddle "If you mean me to aid Kotaro-ohta. Come my Queen."
Elestirne nodded reluctantly, gazing into the direction Storm had ridden, and then turned to mount Olore. She was interrupted by Denendir's mare, who galloped up and nudged her hand towards the saddlebags. Intrigued, Elestirne paused. "What is it pretty one?" she asked? Stroking the mare's nose, the elven queen opened the saddlebags and pulled out a number of seemingly random things and stared at them curiously.
Spell components, noted Olore, much more wise in these things. Something to help you no doubt. I would say a locate person spell to aid in finding Helvaryn.. Possibly what Denendir used to pinpoint my location. You should be able to use it. It is a simple spell. Elestirne nodded and thanked the mare. "Run free until your master comes to find you again," she bade. "I will not have you harmed." As she snorted and ran off, Elestirne mounted Olore and the silver stallion took off without preamble towards Mittelmarch. Mornaur launched into a gallop immediately behind, and Elestirne sent her thoughts out to Denendir;answering his call. You shall not command them lord. They will lead themselves and make their own choices whether or no they aid Tatsumura and his people. This is not their fight and I wil not have them fighting unless they choose to. Storm I have sent back to the kyuden to help. They might follow him if he arrives in time and finds them. Otherwise, they will trust to their own judgement.
That done, she focused on the ride. Olore, galloped at as swift a pace as he could, while still allowing Mornaur to keep him in sight-an exhausting, blistering pace that the valient elven-stallion nonetheless strove gamely to prove equal to. It paid off. In a little less than two hours Mittelmarch-and the Jovians around it-had come into sight. In another few moments of fighting their way, the two had come to Kotaro's side ;Olore shielding them from blows.
Elestirne did not give Kotaro time to question her appearence, only said. "I sent Storm and Denendir to the kyuden to help your lord Tatsumura. My elves to, I feel will fight and help-even if Tatsumura should order that they stay safe. Authion will fight with and help you. As will Mornaur. Olore and I must get within the city and keep Azoth's Gate from Jovian hands. We will be as swift as we can , then we all shall make to return to the kyuden. You need only distract the Jovians a little. Please keep yourselves safe and fight well-I do not want to explain to either Tatsumura or Storm how I let you get hurt. There will be time for explanations later." With that, she closed her eyes and she and Olore faded away in a swirl of moonlight and dissapered as if they had never been.
Authion shook his head just faintly at Kotaro's expression and offered only two grim words. "Trust her."

Storm turned and made a full gallop into the forest towards the Kyuden. He rode as fast as he could and didn't stop. He was about in tears for leaving his sister behind but had to do this for the shogunate. He could see the clearing of the forest and stopped. He took off his helmet and said in the crude elvish since he didn't have a elvish tongue.
"I am here to take control of you elves of Artanor. I am Storm Brightblade, sworn-brother to the queen. she has ordered me to seize command if you are willing to help my people of the kyuden Tatsamura."
Storm pulled out his starjewel and held it above his head.
"You should recognize this seal."

The elf Tatsumura spoke to watched him depart hastily, then shook her head faintly in a bemused manner. Mortals. All the same-always in a hurry. Her deep blue eyes though, reflected concern and worry even as she tossed long golden hair back over a shoulder. Where was her Queen? And her commander? Both had been gone for several hours and had left..no one was quite sure when. Authion had last been seen early that evening in the stables, readying Mornaur. To her and the other captains he had confided that he and the queen were going with others to meet a sorcerer the queen had encountered her first time in this land. She had the others had asked he take an escort, for her safety, but Authion had been adament. Surely no meeting could have taken this long though.. And now to have this mortal lord speak of her queen being safe..and then to say there was battle coming this way. And no sign of Lady Elestirne or Lord Authion..
Making up her mind relatively quickly, she spun and began looking for her ranking comrades. This was not their fight and they had no cause to get involved in it. This was mortals against mortals. None of their affair. And yet this mortal lord was a friend of her Queen's and they had been brought here to help-at the request at Elestirne's bond-brother. And it seemed this lord and his people were now in danger. And he thought he could command them not to fight? The elf shook her head with the barest trace of a smile. She knew what the Queen would say if they did not aid her friends.
Finding the others, she explained things and they each swiftly dispersed; barking orders and gathering the force together. At least, the fighting part. The healers, and squires for the knights would be left here. In perhaps an hour all had assembled and they left without preamble or explanation; making certain that their leaving was witnessed by many.
They marched far enough to be out of sight to mortal eyes, then halted and silently assembled in the forest. Nothing would pass without thier being aware, and they would have plenty of warning when these..Jovians drew near. They set scouts and then, drawing cloaks of muted gray-green over bright armour, the elves simply faded away into the surrounding landscape.
They heard the rider coming long before they saw him or the horses scented him. Arrows were silently nocked and readied;a few bows training on the rider as he pulled his galloping horse to a halt, seeming almost to sense something. When he pulled off his helmet they knew him but still would not reveal themselves. Instead they waited for him to speak. The Queen would not forgive them if they were taken in by an illusion. The sight of the starjewel pendant-the twin of which the Queen possesed-decided them, as did the careful,if arkward speech in elven.
Concealing cloaks were thrown back and suddenly Storm was staring at a ring of elves, two with drawn bows pointed his way and one only feet from his mare's head.
"It is well for you that we recognized you and your pendant Storm, otorno-e-tari," remarked that one evenly. "Else we would not have showed ourselve to you. To answer you... if we had not wished to help we would not be here. Our queen brought us here to help,as you requested of her, and help we shall. Though, normally, such would not be our concern. But nor is it our way to not help defend live and livelihoods from those who would destroy them. Besides, the Queen would not forgive us if we did not help her friends. So we are here. And we also are your people young Storm. The mortal lord Tatsumura does not know we are going to fight. He thinks we obeyed his command to stay out of the conflict." The elf laughed briefly-it could have been considered a scoff. "He must know little of us. That shall not do. As our ambassador, you should enlighten him at the next opportunity. We shall wait here until these...Jovians arrive and then strike at the opportune moment. You shall ride with the cavalry when it is time. Here." The elf handed Storm a grey-green cloak to wear. "Watch and wait with us, and tell us what news you have of our Queen and the meeting and what information on these Jovians."
A few hours laters the elves had seen the Jovians arrive and let them draw up into their formations. They had taken the few archers out immediently, and with their excellent night vision they had witnessed the meeting between the commander and the mortal lord, despite the fact that the night was pitch dark save the light from the moon. But they had held themselves steady, waiting for the oppotune moment to strike. It came in the toppling of one of the catupults after the first firing and a command swept the elves into motion.
Concealed archers unlessed a rain of arrows, singing sweetly in their descent. Both armies paused to wonder at the beautiful sound. That sound, and the silver arrow-tips that glimmered faintly against the night, were the only warnings offered before the volley slammed into the Jovian ranks. Just as the first arrows were finding their marks there came the clear trill of a sweet, pure elven horn. The calvalry moved out from under the shadows of the trees; cloaks thrown back and armour and swords shining in the moonlight.
The elven-horses-nightsighted and needing no encoragement-reared and kicked into full gallops;crashing into the Jovians' flank just as another volley of elven arrows sang in. To add to the confusion, the horses fought every bit as much as their riders. The Jovians attempted to wheel left to deal with this threat and protect that side but by then the elves were gone as if they had never been;dissappearing like ghosts to reappear with no warning or sound to smash into the now unprotected right flank.
The elves noted with approval that the warriors of the stronghold had siezed the opportunity of the first calvalry charge to smash into the confused front ranks. The Jovian's plight was made worse by the avians and their riders that harried from above.
These Jovians had underestimated their quarry. They had underestimated the tenacity of a cornered, outnumbered foe and its will and determination to protect its homes and lives. And especially its will to survive. They had not counted on said foe being prepared, forewarned, and having allies. Nor on those allies being able to see night nigh as well as day, and being able to move as fluidly and silently though both night and landscape as though it were water, or they ghosts. Or of they only glimpsing them when it was too late. The Jovians had underestimated;confident of what the outcome would be. They had erred. Unpredictability, the element which has changed the outcomes of many battles before, they had forgotten utterly. It was a lesson the elves had driven painfully home. And it was a lesson to be remembered.

Elestirne and Olore rematerialized in a pool of moonlight inside the city, well away from any eyes. Olore laced his ears back, and Elestirne covered hers as the raw sounds of panic and screaming reached them. They came into the main city and found a scene of chaos. Villagers and guards ran to and from, trying to prepare and deal with the threat at the gates. Not a one noticed the rather out-of-place island of calm that was the silver-eyed elven queen on her softly glowing silver elven stallion.
We need to find Helvaryn Olore, Elestirne kept her words to mindspeech, her tone worried. He could be anywhere in this and I do not know how long Kotaro and Authion might be able to create a suffiecient distraction to stem the tide.
Both are mighty warriors, Olore reassured. Standing together,no Jovian will mark them for some time-especially with Thalon and Mornaur added to the mix. But you are right. Take out the spell components you pulled from Denendir's saddlebag-I will walk you through the casting.
Obediently Elestirne did so and in a few moments the spell had been cast, with a slight bit of effort. With the guide of the magic that sang in her mind and showed her eyes a twisting trail of energy the elven-queen soon came to a building. Here the trail ended. Briefly,Elestirne took a moment to reorient herself. This was..the library? yes, she had visited it when here for Isen's coronation, to read what they had written of her race and to add knowledge of Artanor to its shelves. She pushed on the doors and to her surprise found them unlocked. They swung open at her light touch and she and Olore entered. She and the stallion twisted their way among the many dark, gloomy shelves and rooms searching.
After only a few moments the two happened upon another, deeper room and entered;feeling that their search was at an end. Elestirne's bright, piercing gaze immediatly alighted on the old elf whom stood at a window,a book in his hands-as if he had been startled from reading.
Elestirne moved forward a pace slowly,Olore at her shoulder. She was cautsious but sensed nothing but good from this one and so,knew who he was, must be.
"Helvaryn." Her voice cut through the darkness and silence like a lilting waterfall,or a nightingale's song at twilight. She moved no further, but continued;speaking in elven. "I am the Lady Elestirne, Queen of Artanor. Ask not how I am come here, or why, but heed my words. I come with warning. The Jovians that threaten your land are even now outside Mittelmarch's gates, attacking. I know about the Azoth Gate. An...aquaintence of both of ours has told me of it and that the Jovians wish to possess it." She tensed faintly and Olore's ears laced back as he snorted lightly.
"They already have another artifact this...Is'bel's Sceptor. They must not get Azoth's Gate. I counsel you to get it out of Mittelmarch and hide it, or find someone who can. It is to dangerous to keep it here. Soon the Jovians will break in and overwhelm the city. They are attacking the kyuden as well as I speak, but I believe Tastumura and his people will hold. My elves should be aiding them. I come to warn you-at risk to myself-and to help Mittelmarch, whom is my friend and ally."
She ceased, waiting for the response;holding herself tall and straight, her hair, crown and gown glimmering softly. Olore beside her shone too;his starry indigo eyes glowing and power and magic verily emantating from him.

Storm was shocked at how close the elves actually were. The Qualinesti Elves of Krynn were silent, but not that silent. He laughed and put his helmet on while pulling his visor up.
"I thank you for your assistance my people, and I shall enlighten our lord but he likes to keep his honored guests out of a fight if neccessary. But I shall try to none the less." He took the cloak and wrapped it about his armor. He rode to where he saw the other cavalry and greeted them with a nod.
The day passed and the night came, it was time for the Jovians to feel pain. Storm pulled off his cloak and stuck into his saddle bag for future use. He rode to the front of the group and turned to face them.
"My brother and sister elves, it is an honor to have you fight along side us today in our time of need. Though it surprises me that the Jovians attack so soon. But they will feel pain, they will feel the mighty soldiers of the beautiful kingdom of Artanor. Now, let's make them fear Artanor and her elves," Storm pulled Brightblade from his sheath and held it above his head. It shone like a star in the middle of the night.
The elves cheered and Storm turned from the group and pulled down his visor. He let out a mighty kia shout and galloped out of the forest with the thunderous hooves of the horses behind him. There was a mighty screech from the skies and Storm looked up to see the avians themselves lending a hand in this fight.
'This should be fun," thought Storm and smiled.
He and the cavalry charged straight into the shield wall and broke it. Storm swung Brightblade and killed the first Jovian that came to view. Storm looked up when he heard shouts that would shake the heavens themselves and saw the shogunate armies charge, all the flags flying. He smiled and tried to make his way to the Fuuma samurai. Storm swung for another kill and succeeded, but then felt himself being pulled off his horse and then fell to the ground. Two Jovians pulled him off and were about to plunge their swords into him.
"Run Angelos!" Storm yelled to his horse.
With that she galloped off the field. He then saw one make a painful face and saw that an elven arrow pierced his back. His comrade got distracted, which gave Storm an opportunity to kick him in the groin. When the Jovian fell to his knees, Storm stabbed him and pulled out his katana, luckily parrying an enemy blade for he too was ran through with Brightblade.
'Stupid gaijin and there honorless tactics. Even the Legion had more honor than this," thought Storm as he was about to swing his blade another time before realizing that he had made his way to his Shogun.
Storm looked and saw a Jovian with a spear about to run his lord through. He made a downward swing with family sword and broke the spear before slicing the hand of the Jovian off.
"Quite a night for a fight? Don't you agree Tatsamura-dono? Lady Elestirne loaned us her elves for this fight. What are your orders?" Storm said as he punched a Jovian, knocking him to the ground. and coup de graced him with both his swords.
((Okay, resume and thank you for waiting))

Helvaryn closes his book in one hand and sits it on the windows edge. He bows and speaks in Elvin, “Queen Elistirne, How may I help you?”
A long white haired elf stands before her, his features chiseled and weathered. He has seen many battles in life. His clothes contrast this, simple clothes, greens and browns, his dress is comfortable and loose. He listens to her every word.
“If this is true we must get you out of here. I must go get the gate…”
DONG DONG DONG, the warning bell rings.
“The gates are breached…”
He turns to look out the window. Red armored men are rounding up civilians and killing any who get in their way.
“I can’t go for the gate now, it will be revealed. I must wait till this settles.”
He leads her to a hidden passage.
“This will take you out the Anchor Inn, facing the River of Flame. Board with the other civilians if you wish, but get out of here. I am sorry we couldn’t meet under better circumstances.”

Elestirne only shook her head, a faint glint in her eyes. "I do not speak false. The threat is real, and on your doorstop as we speak. And I left two dear friends outside the walls to give me the time to find and warn you. One, my commander, the other a mortal ally. I will abandon neither while I and they still live. You need not fear for me elder Helvaryn I am well-versed in combat and defense young though I know I seem to you." She dips her chin slightly to indicate the slghtly curved elven swords that sat familiarly on her hips. "I will win free of the throng and rejoin my companions. With luck,we can rejoin our friends and my people at the kyuden in time to aid them. If not, then I will wait until I can rejoin my people. No Jovian shall mark me and live. Olore here is more than he seems and watches me well."
She tensed as the bell began tolling and soon enough heard the cries of fear and the rough orders of Jovians. "Our time has run out. If you cannot get the Azoth Gate out now, then do so as soon as you have opportunity to. Give it to someone you can trust will keep it away from the Jovians, who will not seek to use it. But do not let it fall into their hands. Please heed my warning and trust me. The Jovians cannot get the Azoth Gate. I must see to my friends and my people. If I can rejoin them,I will." She followed him to the hidden passage and gave him a brief nod and considering look. "I too, wish we might have met under better circumstances Helvaryn but such was not the case this time. Look after yourself. From the little I know of these Jovians, they are ill-disposed to non-humans." With that, she disappeared into the passage, Olore with her.
After several tense moments she and Olore emerged into the night by the river. She noted several civilians fleeing across in boats and glimpsed one that looked like it may have been Kotaro, helping them. It was only a glimpse though, and even as she watched she discerned some Jovians hastening towards the docks with the clear intent of stopping the exodus. On me,Olore ordered and Elestirne obeyed instantly. The stallion pivoted on his haunches gracefully and sprang away. Before he did so however,Elestirne-unwilling to leave without at least trying to help and remembering what Telemachus had said about the Jovians and magic-drew herself straight in the saddle and called to mind one of her few spells.
Softly, she sang the words and,as she sang, a soft mist arose from the river-just enough to obscure sight-and she summoned a small wave to help carry the boats across. More than that, she dared not do. But she had helped in some small way at least. Conscience appeased, she let Olore bear her away. And none too soon. A few arrows whined after them;the Jovians apparentrally recovered enough from their surprise to realize the mist had not been natural. But none came close as she and Olore streaked away back around the city to where they had left Authion.
Before reaching the spot though, Olore checked and wheeled. He will not be there, he said,in response to her unspoken question. Recall you the oath you had he and Storm swear? To be safe and not risk themselves? Authion would have gotten away;trusting in me to look after you. He will find us. The stallion swung away and leveled into a fast canter, the eqilvalent of a swift mortal horse's gallop. As Mittelmarch dissappeared from sight though, Elestirne could not resist twisting to gaze behind her;wondering if it had been Kotaro she had sighted and if he and her other friends would be safe.
Perhaps an hour later a shrill whistle and neigh hailed them out of the darkness. Olore checked his pace and Authion reined Mornaur in beside them, his expression worried. Elestirne noted with concern that he had been marked by battle-he was plainly fatigued and there was at least one wound that she could see. She winced and raised her hands-preparing to heal him- but Authion forestalled her, shaking his head. "No my Queen. Save your strength. Your ability may be needed more when we reach the kyuden, by more than just me."
Elestirne hesitated-unhappy-but recognized the sense in his words. She lowered her hands and looked on him;answering his questions before even he voiced them. "I was able to accomplish what I needed, yes. Azoth's Gate will be kept from Jovian hands." She sighed heavily. "But Mittelmarch has fallen and been overtaken. We need to make certain the same does not happen to the kyuden." She took a breath, and answered the other question she read in his face. "I do not know what became of Kotaro. I thought I saw him at the river but 'twas only a glimpse. I hope he is allright."
Authion shook his head. "I lost sight of him soon after you left lady. Thalon came back without him." The war-horse, she noted only now, was tethered to Mornaur's saddle. His head was low, but, aside from some cuts, he seemed fine. Elestirne considered this a brief second only before shaking her head. "We need to reach the kyuden. Let us go. Try to keep up."
With that, Olore launched into a gallop-one slow enough though for Mornaur and Thalon to keep him in sight. Even so,the landscape raced by in a blur. Within an hour they were near but slowed to a walk;not needing to alert any Jovian stragglers or sentries. After another hour or two dragged by of this cautious dodging the kyuden was in sight and they could see the battle spread out before them. She watched with dismay-knowing losses were inevitable against those numbers, but approval too at the tactics her elves were showing, and at seeing them fighting for her friends. Tatsumura and his people were holding well to,that she could see. "Loose Thalon," she bade Authion. "We may need to join this." The elf-knight looked as though he were going to protest but one look at her face and he ceased;doing what she had asked without question.
Elestirne meanwhile, had slipped free her pendant, and, clasping it in her slender hands she sent her mind out to Storm. Otorno...I am come. Mittelmarch is fallen, but the protector of the Gate has been warned in time. I will join the battle and help if I must. Where are you? And my captains?
