Smoke can be seen stretching above the trees. The source is the Jovian City. It’s been sacked by the Orcs and other monsters. Jovian soldiers and citizens retreat into the forest. A few red armored soldiers stop to plan.
“What now, Captain Karth?”
Karth thinks of his wife Zenobia perhaps dead somewhere in dunland, he refocuses on the current situation and looks to Kane.
“Lieutenant, how many men do you have left in your unit?”
“23, sir!”
Karth, “ I want you to take the men and any Jovian stragglers to the rendezvous point.”
Several Jovian soldiers led by their lieutenant running for Jove come to a halt and put their right fist to their chests to solute the Captain.
“Lieutenant, Anavrin! What’s left of your unit?”
“All 50, sir! We were stationed south. When we saw the smoke we came running.”
“Your late, Lieutenant. We’ve lost. I want you and Lieutenant Kane here to work together to escort as many Jovians as you can to the rendezvous point.”
Anavrin asks, “Sir, what are you going to do?”
“A little recon, I’ll meet up with you later.”
Karth is a seasoned Jovian soldier he fought is way with honor and bravery to become a Captain. His men respect and fear him. His one weakness is the love for his wife Zenobia. Though he never speaks of her his thoughts dwell since she was ordered to Mittelmarch and then sent to Dunland. He hasn’t heard from her since. The loss of the city gave him the opportunity to find her, but what he found was her armor strewn next to a river and tuff of her long red hair tangled into the grass. His anger swelled. He hated the orcs and freaks of this world. He blames them for her assumed death. What he doesn’t know that she changed her identity and disappeared into the city of Dunland to find her own peace.
Karth had a purpose now.
Rebuild.
