As some of you may know, I'm the video guy for the Naptown Rollergirls, the all women's flat track roller derby team in Indy. A recent brainstorm lead me to the idea of Dagorhir fighters brawling it out on the flat track for halftime entertainment. Seems to me it would be a good recruitment tool as they regularly pull in about 4k fans per match. Now, I've not approached the team with this idea yet, and it certainly wouldn't happen before next season (October through April). I wanted to see what, if any, interest there would be in that sort of thing on the Dag end before I approached the team with it. www.naptownrollergirls.com

Can we be on skates? That'd be ridiculous.

I hate to be the naysayer here, but a couple things to consider... Our game does not translate well to film, and to be honest while we may think it looks cool to watch, I'm not sure other people will. Those doing this will have to have a somewhat higher standard. No one is going to want to watch two people come out to fight and then one person one shots the other, particularly if those two people are dressed in scrub pants a t-tunic and black shoes. At the point we are doing this for entertainment we have an obligation to look good, ie. awesome looking armor, good garb. Some banter and bluster between the fighters before the fight, and possibly choreographing the fight so that it isn't over in less than 2 seconds. I know this sounds a bit like professional wrestling, and there is a reason for that. To do this we would have to put on a show that involved dag weapons, not play dag. Not saying no here, just words of caution

I was personally picturing us more doing a roller derby, but with Dag weapons and garbed up. Something ridiculous. That's just me though

i'm assuming you saw the vid of those guys fighting at that arena football game? lol
I think it would be a great way for us to get the name out there. Obviously we would need to hand pick whoever gets to go but we have at least till october to figure out who we'd want, ask them, arrange teams (or places to crash if we pull people from out of indy), get garb and armour spruced up, and for you scrubs you'd have till october to wow us.
my only concern is what the flat track is made from, having never seen the rollergirls before. is it padded? Hardwood? Concrete? If its padded then we could have some real fun with it and probably plan some awesome moves, falls, shield checks awesome deaths etc etc.
If its hardwood or concrete we'll have to be much more careful.

Just need to let everyone know who's fighting that it needs to be hard and fast paced. No straggling behind. Good bashes/checks/kicks. Don't bitch about being hit too hard. People going to watch roller derby are prolly a great audiance to pull members from. And more chicks!

I think a semi-choreographed, very fast and hard fight would be very much in order. Only really great garb and armor should be on the field/track, and everybody should understand going in that it'll be ten or twenty minutes of balls-to-the-walls kickassery. No whining, getting upset, or whatnot. If somebody blasts you in the face, tough stuff. Don't gripe, just swing back and make it look awesome.
Given the nature of the space, missile weapons would need to be minimal or none. Also, they tend to play on some very hard surfaces, so shieldbashes should be choreographed or well communicated ahead of time. The last thing we want is someone busting their head open on the concrete/hardwood/sport court or whatever they happen to be playing on that particular bout.
Anyway, continue to discuss the pros, cons, and approaches you would consider about an invitation like this. Again, I've not even broached the idea with the team yet, so this is all conjecture at this point. But, if we get to a place where enough of us feel like it's the sort of thing we can do and make look awesome, then I'll discuss the possibility with the rollergirls.

Weird, I met one of the girls today. Her day job is at Community East Hospital. Evidently, her name is "Ragin Red" and she said that they are trying to get T-shirts made that say: "Kick her in the cooter!"
I've been meaning to go check them out for years but as you all know. I don't get out much...

fyi: the rink is concrete. Actually, the surface they typically play on is ice (as in, frozen water) below an inch and a half of some sort of fancy particle board below a layer of masonite below a layer of sport court (a fancy lego-style snap together plastic surface).
