This idea has been thrown around on the National boards, on Stormhaven's boards a couple times, and now I bring it to you.
I think it'd be cool to set up a hex grid map of LbtL (7 hexes to each chapter) and we compete for each other's territories. (If anyone is familiar with Darkon, it's like that just minus the LARP) Each grid set is aligned with each other chapter's grid set in a seemingly logical but playable manner (i.e. Northern Steppes is next to Stormhaven which is next to Mittelmarch).
A chapter can elect to invade another chapter's tile and they fight over it. If the aggressor wins, they add that tile to their dominated land map. Bonuses may be gained due to held areas from different chapters. If the defenders win and repel they can boast about it. A chapter has to attack adjacent hex tiles (i.e. Mittelmarch can't bypass Stormhaven and go straight to Northern Steppes).
The mini-events/joint practices would be held every two weeks (gotta prepare y'know) and both defending and attacking chapters coordinate what date the battle would be held. Mittelmarch may decide to defend from Kanthea on May X, while on the same date Stormhaven is attacking Northern Steppes. Two weeks later after land has been gained and lost, another battle would ensue more than likely with different match ups.
I haven't come up with a reward/consequence system but things to incorporate into that system would be rewards for gaining control of X amount of tiles, gaining control of an opposing chapter's "capital" (the central hex of the grid set) and also consequences for losing said capital.
Some things to think about include:
- How to regain lost starting territory.
- How to coordinate the current map and who controls what hexes.
- Who decides who attacks what, where, and when.
- Setting up a better map than just including Mittelmarch, Northern Steppes, Stormhaven, and Kanthea (only realms I'm really familiar with).
As thoughts come to me, I'll post later. Thoughts my friends?
