Hello and welcome to Mittelmarch. For those of you who have found your way here and are interested in joining our community, allow me to be the first to say welcome. Before beginning your first practice it is important read a few posts here on our forums. This thread is meant to be a guide as to how to join our group, and getting you ready for your career as a dagorhir fighter. I’m going to start things off with a simple F.A.Q. about getting started in the realm of Mittelmarch.
Frequently Asked Questions.
1) How do I join the realm?
Our realm is a very welcoming place to be, we will not turn a person away who wishes to join us without a very good reason. The easiest way to join the realm is simply to come to a practice. If we are not there that day I apologize, but please do not get discouraged, and continue reading the forums, the reason we ask people to post if they are coming to practice is so that our members know when people will be attending, and not have to drive upwards of an hour in some cases to find an empty field.
2) What threads should I be sure to read before coming to a practice?
Please read a minimum of the following three threads:
mittelmarch.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1
mittelmarch.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=2
mittelmarch.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=2360
In addition I would highly recommend familiarizing yourself with the dagorhir rule book, this can be found at the following link:
dagorhir.com/dagorhir/Rules.htm
If you still find yourself looking for information after these starter threads please feel free to ask any questions you might have.
3) What do I need to attend my first practice?
If you are under 18:
- We ask you to bring a parent or legal guardian with you, this is so we can assure ourselves that your legal guardian is aware you are participating in a full contact sport, and has been made aware of the risks you are taking.
- In addition it is also requested that you bring a notarized waiver to your first practice. The waiver can be found with the following link:
www.dagorhirragnarok.com/DagorhirWaiver.pdf
Failure to do so will result in you being unable to participate in field battles until such time as a realm councilor has a notarized waiver.
If you are over 18:
- Please familiarize yourself with the waiver found at the link in the post above.
In all cases be prepared to be assessed in your skills to allow realm members to make sure you are a safe fighter before you are allowed on the field.
4) I see a lot of information on garb in the threads you posted; do I need garb to participate in this sport?
This is at the discretion of the host realm. The current policy of Mittelmarch is garb must be worn at events, but for a practice you do not need to wear it, though it is highly encouraged.
5) When and where are practices held?
Information on practices, the current schedule as well as who will be attending can be found in our practice forum
mittelmarch.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=practices
6) Do I need my own weapons and armor to participate in this game?
Armor:
Armor is not in any way required to participate and as such generally people are not willing to allow their armor to be borrowed, you may find an exception to this rule, but this is the general case.
Weapons:
For the first few weeks realm members will most likely be happy to assist you with loaner gear if they have it. Understand however we may not have the weapon style you wish to fight with, and you must ask the owner of the weapon you wish to fight with. After a few weeks if you wish to continue in this game we do ask you to obtain your own weapons. Weapons can be made or bought.
7) Where can I obtain my first weapon?
Weapons can be made by you, or bought premade. For a first weapon I would recommend finding a person willing to walk you through the steps of making a sword, since it is somewhat tedious, and many people find their first weapon fails.
I would recommend your first weapons be bought. In some cases you may find realm members of the realm willing to make weapons for you for the cost of materials. One of my personal favorite sites to buy weapons from is the Forged foam armory located at:
www.edhellen.com/
The weapons you wish to buy are located in the full contact weapons section, and the shield section. The only thing in these two sections that will not work for this game are the arrows.
Another good site to buy weapons from is the Axe and Arrow Armory located at:
hyenacart.com/axeandarrow/
This site is dedicated to dagorhir, and as such every weapon on it will work for the game.
Please feel free to ask any questions you might have and we will attempt to answer them in as timely a manner as possible. If it seems we are taking a long time to answer a question please remember the cardinal rule of Mittelmarch, “Real life comes first.” Many of us have families, or jobs or school we are involved in that take away much of our free time, and while we do devote much of our time to this game we do not always have time to drop everything for dagorhir. This having been said we do answer most questions fairly quickly. So once again welcome to the realm of Mittelmarch.
