OK,I am not trying to ruffle any feathers but,I read some Dag rules when i got home Sat. The rules iam talking about cover what counts asa good hit and the ring size for chainmail
One rule i saw said a good hit had to have sufficient force.Light hits and grazes did not count. The rule on chainmail gives a maximum ring size, not a minimum. Can someone clarify for me?Was there a rule change that has not been posted yet? Thank You,Arthur The Bear.

werebear, having just read the rules cause i needed a refresher myself here's my interpretation.
Chainmail- I don't think that they care as to the small-ness of rings just the maximum because people can still grapple other people in armor and they don't want fingers getting caught in people's mail cause in my eyes that can hurt really really bad (I know it would hurt but the extreme of it hurting I don't know)
force- In mittelmarch our rules are "Hit hard, Take light" because in the beginning when people start fighting they don't know how hard to hit and so we the veterans want to discourage them by saying you didn't hit hard enough. Now that's not saying that if the very tip grazed you to take it because in a real fight if the tip got you that would be a very insignificant wound. But if you saw it hit you we encourage that you take the hit just to a) make it easier and b) allow that person the ego boost of saying "Yeah I killed this very skilled fighter on my first day!'. But as to force you kinda have to gauge it on who hit you because everyone varies in sizes so some people aren't as able to hit hard as others. hence where's it's an honor system.
That's my 2 cents on the topic

Dag is a.combat reenactment, you should hit hard. We should emulate, best to our ability the gritty and visceral happening that is "going medieval" on some one. If you hit the arm, make the hit like it would leave the arm barely hanging from blood vessels and tendons. The scourge of the battle field is attacks that are glorified tappings. When safety and playability are in check, we must then stick to realism.
Since dagorhir is also a game of honor, its best to follow a policy of taking lighter hits. Like Storm said, grazes are not something to trifle with, but if you have to think whether or not you got hit, you did. Go die and respawn, arguments can hinder game play with the debates and people then get nasty.

I believe the chain mail confusion stems from me questioning if the chain mail was legal. I don't know if you noticed wearbear but the maximum diameter of the rinds went down according to the thickness of the wire used to make the rings, that is what I was asking about, the minimum gauge for smaller rings like that. For future reference to all it is 16 gauge per rule 5.2.3
With regard to hitting with sufficient force(personally I hate this phrasing) everyone has a different calibration but what you have to keep in mind is that blowing off what some players consider a good shot can cause anger and frustration, particularly when that same player has taken shots from you which are the same level of power. The problem with this is that often times that player will take that frustration and anger out on the wrong target causing injuries. The single most important rule we have in this game is "SAFETY FIRST." This is the reason we tell people to take lighter hits. Most of the time the person who hit you will turn around and either act very surprised they hit you or tell you not to take that hit. That is what i gauge as a light hit, the ones that I am either told not to take or the ones the person is surprised they hit me at all, and those are the calibration I will call light on. But the caveat here is that each field is different and the calibration is different, it is better to play by the level of calibration of the group you are visiting rather than you own groups calibration. The number of "tap" fighting realms out there is rather small compared to the normal realms out there, and we are by no means a tap fighting realm, this having been said many of us pull our shots so as not to injure people, and as such we expect people visiting to respect that

Well said, Oof.
Another possibility, if people are saying you're not taking your hits, is your adrenaline, I don't know how long you've been fighting Werebear or how many events you have been to, but a common problem for new fighters is they get excited and they just don't feel the hit right away. Sometimes in the chaos of things you're getting bumped around and you don't realize you get hit.
Generally if there's more than 1 person complaining about your hit taking, you probably aren't taking your hits right. We've all been there, so don't sweat it too much.

Thank you brother warriors.I appreciate your input.Since we have been fighting with other groups I have encouraged the warriors of the Outlands to try and adapt to whom they were fighting.I have always told them to hit hard in battles because it is sometimes difficult to feel a hit,and yes to be as safe as possible. The next thing I would like to know is will my young fighters chainmail be allowed? It is 18 Gauge stainless which is equal to 16 gauge.

www.engineeringtoolbox.com/gauge-sheet-d_915.htmlBy that chart, 18g Stainless is 14 thousandths thinner than 16g Galvanized. /= 5.2.3 - The minimum thickness wire for chain mail is 16-gauge. 5.2.4 - The minimum thickness of plate metal armor and riveted/welded chainmail is 18 gauge. So I guess the question is: Is his maille butted or riveted/welded ?

By letter of the law, then it's not legal gauge. Luckily I'm not in charge. Nichtmar, Oof, Baethor?

linkages - the Minimum age to be on the field in MM is 14, but as I stated in another post please have your parents come talk to us the first time you come out.
wearbear - Stubbie is correct as 18 gauge the chain mail is illegal

When you're talking gauge, higher the number, thinner the wire.

I will have to check with the manufacturer on the gauge of the wire. The rules talk about the wire gaoge and the gauge of the steel.

Ok ,I found out I was wrong about the chainmail. It is welded, not butt edge. Thanks for the info guys.I am glad we could clear that up. I hated to see him buy it and not be able to use it.Plus ,I was thinking about getting some for myself when I could afford it because it would be easier on my back.
