Hey, Dhugal, what kind of material do you use for your sword covers? That sword cover in particular, it looks great. Thanks

Yeah, it looks great cause he made it himself with love, sweat and tears!! But he can give me a whack upside the head if I'm wrong .... I believe he used material from the $1 bin at Walmart and grip tape. I know I am not Dhugal, but I see him making stuff enough to pretty much know what he uses and if I get something wrong he always knows he can correct my boo-boo. ;D

Thanks Mom ;D I should've said Dhugal or Kelabeth, because even as I typed it I knew you'd answer first, like you did with the shield paint and grip tape stuff

It's not that I don't think Dhugal can answer for himself, because he can. Now that he works second shift, he isn't on the computer as much!

LOL... that is correct babe, it is simply dollarbin stuff from Walmart, basically all the cloth I use comes from there, unless I can't find what I need, then I hit the 2-dollarbin other than that I tend to go to Joanns when I need to get more pricey stuff.

Alright, cool, thanks. One more question...
Is the tip different material then the blade?

Post by Kelabeth on Aug 20, 2005 10:45:20 GMT -5
No, not different material.... he just wrapped it in grip tape to keep the cover down better! That answer came straight from Dhugal.... I am just the messenger!! ;D

I recently got un-lazy and began to actually sew my covers, that one is completely taped on with cloth grip tape, that way, most weapons checkers won't have an issue with the tape on the cover, duct tape will almost universally fail a weapon. On a side note, that sword was used heavily all of Rag, and passed with flying colors the entire time... the cover is really the least of your worries, quality construction is the key. If a weapon is well made, you will have far fewer problems with it, so concentrate on that, rather than pretty covers, just get them covered.

Let the newbie ask a question. Should I just sew a peice of cloth together while it's still on the weapon (to make it tight), or should I sew the cover separately? I'm very, VERY new to this.

I have seen it done both ways.... I guess trial and error and see which way you are more comfortable with.... I can tell you if you sew the cover seperately you have to be very meticulous in measuring or else you might not get it to fit properly.

Hey, what do you guys (and gals) think of my avatar? I'm quite fond of it. If you can't figure out what it is, then I won't tell you.

Honor is indeed a respectable pursuit.
My Clan's motto "Ehre vore allem" (which appears under my avatar) is German for "Honor above all."
If you're interested in joining, we welcome any honorable fighter.

Deffinately a predator... After being forced to watch all the Aliens, Predators, and Alien vs. Predators (special editions, I might add) by Raphsis, I could spot a predator even if it was cloaked 6 more days...
