Anyone made a successful flail? I want one for our group up here but I'm not sure how to approach it exactly.

Yep, only problem it had was you left the core in the nerf ball so that sweet spot hit way too hard.

Post by Alric, son of Harland on Nov 4, 2005 21:35:55 GMT -5
And again I repeat: learn to beat them.
I've done my share of whining and bitching about "skill on a stick," but it didn't get me anywhere. There will always be flails in this game, and until the technology improves to the point where we can make flails more realistic without sacrificing safety, they will be cheesy.
Don't look down upon those who use flails; some of them are accomplished fighters in other forms as well. Athron of Eryndor won the Single Blue tourney at Rag with a flail, but I doubt anyone in Mittelmarch could beat him 5 out of 9 with matching Blue swords.
Learn to beat the flail. Zaron acquired a flail so we could use it one-on-one and teach Mittelmarchers how to fight against them so we won't look like deer in the headlights at big events. Pick it up and fight against it. Your best bet is a punch shield. You can extend it away from your body so the flail doesn't wrap around and land a shot. You should also practice turning your wrist so the flail doesn't wrap as much. And when blocking with a weapon, don't punch block, swing at it. It will catch you on the wrist if you punch, but if you swing toward it, you can either make it wrap around part of the blade away from your hand, or you might even block the ball itself.

It's fine not to like them, I just wanted to make the point that while flails do give a fighter an advantage, they can be beaten. I apologize if my post came off as a little harsh, I just wanted to make it clear that there is a way to beat them, and once you beat them as often as they beat you, you won't feel the need to complain. As much, anyway; I still whine.

Trick against a flail is to make sure to block the head and not the chain if you can.

The best thing to do against a guy with a flail is shoot him.
BTW I had some hella double arrow shots ask Berrok he knows, one in the face other in the torso. I shocked myself.

just to clarify, a flail or a mace can be called a mourning star, that refers to a round head with gnarly spikes coming out in all directions, whether attached to the shaft or a chain doesn't matter.

Oi! A Mace on a stick is a Maul.... a Mace isn't a mace without a face ;D so when making a mace.. try and put a little emote on it......
And a Toll is a toll... and a roll is a roll.... and if we don't get no tolls.... we don't get no rolls.... hah! I Made that up!
Morning star is a STYLE of mace/flail as My dear friend Dhugie Said.
