Hello all,
I'm new to Dagorhir, and I'm looking to get my weapons. I've a lot of fencing experience and was near master level when I had to leave due to moving away from my team, and was hoping to be able to make a sabre-style sword. I was actually an epée fighter, but sabre seems more practical for Dagorhir purposes.
I was thinking of taking a sturdy dowel rod, either plastic or light metal, and wrapping foam around it from the hilt to the tip. Would this be legal?
Also, I've absolutely no idea how to do the handguard. I was thinking of flexible plexiglass, then foaming the outside and pommel in case I wanted to do pommel strikes and go outside the bound of olympic fencing.

Welcome to Dagorhir! To Mittelmarch, as well. I suggest you read this: www.dagorhir.com/dagorhir/Rules.htm as it will definitely come in handy, even if just given a quick glance over. Coming to practice would be a great way to address most of these and any questions you might have, as it will no doubt show you how combat is performed in this game. It's much different than what you are used to, a few notable examples being the exclusion of pommel strikes, head strikes, and more as legal moves. To answer your first question directly, metal is not allowed for any sort of core except for arrows. A few good resources for the methods used to make Dagorhir weapons can be found here: www.dagorhir.com/gear/weapon_tutorials.phpIf you have any specific questions, there are plenty of people here willing to help out. Some may even be willing to help you make your first weapon if you so choose. There's quite a bit of work that goes into them, and the initial investment can be a little more than expected if you're on a budget, so just keep that in mind. Happy Fighting
