This lil snippet of s story deosn't fit in here, nor does it fit any longer in the overall 'Campaign' thread. But I find myself unable to just delete, there's several portions I like about it. So I'll just leave it here for now and 'see what dreams may come' later on. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: A few days earlier along the east side of the Iron Mountains:Once put back on the path by the Hooded Man, the dwarf had spent little time in making his way south where he was set upon by a small band of undead. Proving himself of Greater Magik's the band led Zigler back towards their encampment. Thus the Demon Dwarf known as Zigler Robertson became the Leader/General of the hundred 'strong' undead warriors left over (escaped?) from Kanthea and the Army of Giggles. For the past two weeks Zigler forced them to search the Iron Mountains for a clue or sign as to where the Azoth Gate might be hidden until finally one of the scouts reported success. Upon a flat cliff-side of one of the smaller mountains was carved the symbol of a hammer. The undead surrounding the base of the cliff had already broken out digging equipment, however, at the touch of Zigler's hand the cliff-side parted and a sudden wind came from the passage therein. Bringing with it the smell of old and new death. "A fi' five of yea come with me," commanded Zigler," the rest be settin' up a perimeter and gettin' set to leave south in a hurry should it be needed." Twenty-five undead warriors and one Dwarf enter the passageway. Beyond the line of light given by the outside sun, bodies of goblins, trolls, and animal's lined the corridors walls. This then was the source of the stench, yet curiously enough even the latest dead seemed to be dry and brittle. As if drained of all their blood and fluids. Finally after searching through a few store rooms and ascending a couple flights of stairs the group came to an iron bound wooded door. Inside was something akin to a cross between a smithy's forge, bedroom, kitchen and witches den. The stank of burnt blood hung in the air while the crystal of the Azoth Gate gave a harsh black red glow from an alter placed in the center of the room. The only thing living in the room were a pair of starved goblins, heavily chained to the wall near a cauldron of boiling blood. Upon seeing the dwarf enter both creatures cowered against the wall, crying and pleading for mercy. "Four of you come in here and unchain these wretches." told Zigler to the group. Upon being brought before him under the lights of torches the goblins calmed somewhat and after a few bits of stale bread from Zigler's pouch began talking about their captivity. "Master, the evil man's name was Baethor, he said he needed our lives in order to save his city. He....." "Enough! Out! All of yea! Strengthen the perimeter guard and be ready to leave on my say so," shouted Zigler. Both the undead and the goblins exited the room hastily, the goblin's tripping over their own feet in their hurry. Wandering around the room, Zigler studies the various books and writings until his eyes fall upon a handwritten journal kept by his enigmatic Dwarven friend. "26th Day; Despite the addition of more blooded souls still the key escapes me. My hands and arms are now thoroughly covered by the blood of those creatures I've killed in order to see my city safe once again. I know this 'Gate' to be the source of the power I need, yet it remains closed to me. There are still other lines of chance that might unlock the 'Gate' but I hesitate to use them as it would mean killing those I mean to save from the horrors that now inhabit the Lands Between. This place, this haven of seclusion and privacy now soaks with the evil that I've done, I shall be quit of it and compose myself amongst the mountain passes. Perhaps I shall find another answer, if not..... The passage ends ominously, and is several days old. Dipping a quill into a nearby inkwell Zigler finishes off the page: Laddie, this be not the way for you. I plead, return to the City, aid Storm. For with me gone he'll need another to provide wise council. Do not fear, I shall return with the means to assure the safety of the City. Look for me on the Southern Horizon.
Signed Z.R. this 15th Day of the Warlord Storm Feeling oddly pulled, Zigler turns toward the middle of the room and approaches the Gate. Slowly he reaches out his bare hand to collect this object of power and, Reality crumbled around Zigler and was replaced with the burning fires of Hell. His face becomes a mask of pain and a silent scream bursts from between his lips. Ba'al Berith's powers stretched far and wide when Zigler first 'acquired' them. But even a Lord of Hell's powers were miniscule to what assailed the dwarf this time. And once again Zigler was plunged into the Heart of the Storm. "So here's the deal," says a new voice, "and its a real fluid deal at that because look around you at this vast weak land I can rule it I can rule it and nothing will stand in MY way. Strong men will weep at our coming and young maidens will hide in fear of our loins while their mothers beg for us to take them instead and what do you say what do you say does this appeal to you. Would you like to rule all men with but a slip of the tongue or maybe you would like to buy them with all the easily made gold we could make. Heh, it doesn't matter what you want, like those other men you are nothing but weak, I won't need you for long. " And suddenly the voice was no longer around him no longer surrounding him but in him coming from his own lips his own voice and Zigler just could not take it he would not take he will not take I will not take it!........But it didn't work this time. The power was no longer his, it consumed him, became him, relived all that he knew and all that he had thought before his very eyes. The assault continued and it came from everywhere and every-when. Zigler was forced through barriers that lesser mortals could never attain, and wiser demons and elves knew better than to cross. The assault continued and poured in to his being, through his pores, his nose his every orifice, his mind his soul was filled with the ever present and ever-being powers that had been contained in the Azoth Gate. And as Zigler's soul wept, he could hear three voices uplifted in laughter..... With an evil grin Ba'al Zigler returns to the table and slams the journal closed then tosses it into the pot of boiling blood. Before exiting the hovel, he sets fire to the bed and a nearby bookshelf. The light of the flames are as nothing compared to the black red light of the Azoth Gate now embedded in Ba'al Zigler's chest, nor the purple flame emitted from his eyes. ----------------- Smoke pours out the sides of the Iron Mountains as if the very rocks were aflame. Seen for miles many small villages and farmers took to the hills, expecting to prevent a large forest fire. Upon discovery of the passage and further investigations the journal is found and messages sent on their way towards Mittelmarch and surrounding powers.

well, there is a decent expanse at the base of that hill that then bleeds out to Troll, the pathways to the lake and graveyard and up to the edge of the woods. Theres also a rather open field out behind the parking lot that has a couple of the woods trails leading to it.

"Aye, 'tis perfect weather fer one such as myself," responds the dwarf.
It had been several days before B'Sid had come back and informed Zigler that after having remained in the City for a short time and meeting with some strange folk, Baethor had set off for the Iron Mountains.
It had been another day and a half before Zigler could go on after him and the stone.
"And what be brinin' you out taday laddie?" asks the dwarf as the two of them near what remains of the city's gates.

You get out of this game what you put into it. You put in the time and effort to make it to dozens of events, you have stories to tell and friends to share them with. You put time/effort/money/et al into your garb, you look like a badass on the field instead of a dork in scrubs. You put the time/effort/money/et al into your armor, you look like a unstoppable killing machine, instead of a turkey.

As the vapors of the woman dispersed Zigler gave an angry shout and threw a mighty punch that connected with only the wall. Up in the Inn glass and bottler rattled in their shelves and one of the injured upstairs begin shouting hysterically about 'bombs', Jovians, and a red demon......
While the healers tried to calm the man, Zigler is busy gathering together simple armor, easily hidden weapons and a few useful supplies. Before exiting the basement the demonic dwarf glances at the crystal cube on a shelf a the bottom of the stairs. Pausing for only a moment, Zigler lets the cube's green radiance wash over him before snatching it from its post. As his hand encloses the cube its light begins to turn red, and just before it's placed inside a pouch one can see a strong purple light, flickering like flame.
Continuing up the stairs and back out into the Inn Zigler studies the occupants carefully looking for any of the Brotherhood. Spying what he needs Zigler grabbing young B'Sid by the arm and speaks quietly into the bearlings ear, "Lad, I be needing ta know the whereabouts of either Baethor or Carneth. I know both be within the remnants o' the cities walls, but not where. Go fin' em for me and report back."

Dude, if I recall my history right, didn't the Aztec's lay claim to most of Central America, Gulf Islands, and the lower portions of the US for awhile. Throw in the human sacrifices to their Gods and how they came about inventing soap and I'd hardly consider they're weapons useless. They were obviously doing something right, after all, Empire is not built upon the souls of the weak.

Zigler's fist holds onto the silver coins Anvill had paid him as if to squeeze blood from them. As Nichtmar limps to a booth the Inn Keeper jumps down from the step behind the bar and quickly nods to another dwarf to take his place before disappearing into the kitchen and thence to the Inn's basement.
Once there he swiftly strikes a match one handed and lights a nearby oil lantern. In the flickering light Zigler opens his right hand to reveal not the silver coins Anvil had given him, but gold coins whose luster brightly reflect the lanterns light, casting strange shadows on the walls.
"By Gimel's Beard, what is Happening! I only thought about it fer a second, dinna even concentrate!" says Zigler as he continues to stare down at the solid gold coins he had subconsciously turned to gold. The Demon Dwarf reflects back on the few times he had used this power; that first day in Telamon's cliff dwelling, the day he went with Storm to rescue an elf, and the whole two weeks of concentration and pain it had taken him to pay off Harrow's harpies. And yet now, with barely a thought, he had turned those silver coins into ones of pure gold.
"Somethin' 'as been changed, somethin' is coming, mayhap's is even on it's way. If'n this is what it kin do at a distance, what'll be happin ta me when its within the cities walls....."
The Dwarf looks down at the coins and feels a cold, burning fear deep in the pit of his stomach.
The Demon looks down at the coins of gold and grins.
The fun is about to begin...

"A man could get a fair sight more than that if'n he be able ta pay." replies Zigler
"As fer all this here diggin' you thinks gonna be goin' on. Don't ya think it might be a fair bit quicker if yeah were ta simply follow the sewer till the proper point, the damn thing leads from one end o' the city out ta the river, an' then jus' blast yer way up?"

Meanwhile, Zigler had just returned to the bar as the wounded Ogre asks his question.
"Lad, I don' be known' why, but even after all o' this fighting an' the destruction right outside me door, I feel as though I coul' take on what left o' Harrows forces, an' shove 'em head first inta the ground." Zigler's eye's begin to blaze purple at the last remark and no one within hearing range doubts the dwarf's anger toward those behind the inner walls of the city.
"Were it not fer Baethor's warnin' an' my own 'equal' treatment to both sides before this war began, I doubt that even this place would be standin'."

Setting Storm's wine down Zigler ducks back under the bar and reappears with a cup of hot tea and a mug of Tillman for Nichtmar.
"Drink the tea if'n ye know whats good fer ya laddie, the Tillman's on me fer the moment," says the Inn Keeper in passing.
Turning his back on the bar, the dwarf strides into the kitchen and fishes out clean bandages from a pot of boiling water. Heaping them on a serving tray, he then dumps a load of 'used' bandages into the pot before exiting the kitchen and walking upstairs where the injured and their caretakers are currently housed.
