"I will let you know when I have made contact with the thieves guild and will wait for you before I head out again." Cathán says to Zigler.
Looking at Gravein, "Right now my biggest concern is revenge on the Jovians and getting Mittelmarch back. If you want to help you can either stay here and help the refugees or if Kotaro would like another man, you can help him. Finding this pond will be much easier if I go alone, much faster for me."
Cathán walks over to Kotaro, "Where would you like to meet?" in a lower voice for only Kotaro to hear, "I'm a little weary of Gravein and Delmonte, just because I haven't seen them or heard from them in ages. I'm not sure if they have turned like Baethor or not. If you want them to help, ok, but keep a very close eye on them."
Cathán waits for the loction where he'll meet Kotaro before he heads out.

Masamune walked for some time, not paying any real attention to where he was headed. He came upon a small clearing, a large, flat, snow covered rock sitting in the middle of the area.
He moved towards the rock, wiping the snow away before sitting down.
I don't know what this feeling is, perhaps I should just try to clear my head.
With that, Masamune closes his eyes to begin his meditation. The sounds of the forest around him fill his ears for the moment. The remaining birds singing as they fly around, the wind blowing through the ice covered trees. The animals slowly walking around looking for food to eat, rustling through the snow to eat the still frozen grass.
Slowly, everything faded away, as if Masamune's mind had left his body behind, finally being drawn to whatever was calling him.

Growing impatient from Kotaro taking so long to decide where to meet, "There is a clearing on the south side of Mittelmarch's walls. It's close to the River of Flame, but still a good distance away where we wont be spotted. We can meet there. There is one try in that clearing that has no bark on it at all, smooth as a river bed rock. That is where you will find me." Kotaro nods.
After saying this, Cathán heads off north in the direction of the Iron Mountains. Learning from the Shogunate on how to meditate and listen to the things around him, Cathán knows something is that way that he is needed for. He is unsure quite yet what it really is, but he knows it needs to be done soon.

Zigler watches as Cathán heads off and is slightly worried when he realizes that Cathán is headed not in the direction of the Pond.
"Well, he's fast and knows what he's doing...I hope. It may turn out that the water's not necessary." Zigler turns to Kotaro.
"We've got about a day and a night before we have to head out for the rendezvous. I don't know about you, but I'm going to take care of a few things, then get a real good nights sleep. See you in the morning," says Zigler.
Heading towards the Kyuden, Zigler looks up idly at the partly cloudy sky.

Kotaro looked to Gravein after the others had left. "At the moment, no. But back at the kyuden there are refugees that need assistance in some way or another. That's where you'll be most useful, I think."

The snow falls quietly and gently in the forest, silent other then the crunch of snow beneath the hooves of his horse, the horse snorts its unhappiness as the dwarf pushes deeper into the great wood. "Easy girl, easy...Righ' we'll take a breather..." The dwarf stopped near a small stream which has just begun to freeze at the banks, the slowly flowing water not allowing the ice to spread to far.
Baethor dismounts with a thud, tieing the horse off to a young tree, close enough that it can drink from the stream. The dwarf reaches into one of the saddlebags and pulls out a small bag and the horses feedbag, scooping a handful of grain into it the dwarf straps the bag to his horse, who begins chomping away happily.
He had not been riding hard, but it had been several hours through the woods... The dwarf bent down to the stream and pulled a small tankard from his belt, filling it with the cool waters, putting it to his lips and gulping it down feeling like a cold stone landing in his belly.
He shrugged off the cold and shifted uneasily, these parts of the wood are unfamiliar at night, even to his eyes. He began to wander around, looking for some place to set up camp, seeing what looked like it could be a clearing not far off, wrapping up his thick cloak around it and adjusting the fur mantle around his shoulders, the dwarf set towards it to inspect it.
Crunching through the snow the dwarf finally breaks the treeline. and searches around, not bad good enough to set up a small camp...there's a figure sitting on the boulder in the middle of the clearing...a figure he recognizes almost immediately, whether it was the swords at his belt or the frame that supported the man, Baethor knew...his travel had just gotten cut much shorter... The dwarf shifted the shield from his back under his cloak and slipped his arm into the strap, just as he saw the eyes of his friend, Tatsumura Masamune look up at him in the moonlight.
The two stared at each other for some time both resting their hands calmly on the pommels of their weapons...Each waiting for the other to speak. "...Hello Tatsumura...

Masamune had found himself in a long dark corridor. It was dimly lite, and made of stone, an ancient looking place. He seemed to fly down the hallway, as if not even touching the ground. He saw a large light in the distance, and made quickly for it, the light took up the entire entrance way, he moved through the doorway, coming face to face with a elf in chains, blooded and beaten, and weak beyond conprehension. The figure looks up, as if to stare into Masamune's soul....it's Isen!!!
"Help me..."
With that, Masamune awakens from his meditation. He is wide eyed at what his meditations showed him. Was it real, or just a bad dream. What ever it was, he felt unsettled about it. It seemed that even the wind was disturbed by the sounds....wait, the wind.
The wind was the only sound around. He quickly realized it was night, but the sounds that come with it were gone. No owls, no wold howls, just the wind. Then he heard it, the loud thud and crunching snow. He lowered his hand to his katana, resting his thumb firmly against the tsuba, ready to pop the blade free from the saya. He heard the footsteps coming closer, whatever, or whoever it was, was coming towards the glade.
He then saw him, it was Baethor, his onee-san, his brother. His squat, solid form standing out against the forzen earth and trees, as if he was a moving wall of stone. Masamune relaxed his thumb, until he noticed that Baethor shifted his shield, though he had tried to hide it. He watched as the dwarf rested his hand on his weapon. He was taking a stance to perpare to fight. Masamune had not wanted to believe that Baethor now served the Jovians, but this seemed to be the proof. Why would his friend ready his weapon against him, unless he served what Masamune now stood against.
The words rang out, almost hallow, cold, with a slight touch of nervousness.
"...Hello Tatsumura...
Masamune released his weapon, resting his hands on his knees. His voice carried the same slightly nervous touch in it, though, there seemed to be some warmth to his voice.
"Konichiwa...onee-san."
Masamune turned his head away, looking straight in front of himself.
"It has been some time since we last spoke onee-san. Usually readying one's weapons is a sign that you are not happy with that person."
Masamune turns to look back at Baethor, waiting to see what his next moved will be.

Baethor looks down at his weapon, still in its sheath, he had rested his hand on the pommel, just in case it needed to be drawn. The dwarf chuckled and drew the runeblade from its sheath and looked at it in the moonlight. The runes glowed a dim red in the moonlight, he turned and stabbed his sword into the cold earth, setting it there to rest and taking a few steps towards masamune, leaving his sword behind him. "Ah'm sorry Tatsumura...didnt mean te scare ya. But after my men returned bloodied and pierced with arrows...I had te prepare myself fer anything."
the dwarf adjusted the cloak around his body again, shifting tensly in the snow. "I would not think it wise for a king to be so far from his gaurds friend..." The dwarf began scanning the treeline behind tatsumura gripping tight to his shield.

Cathán travels north, unsure of what he is looking for. The sun is just setting over the mountains, he knows he must hurry because he has a long travel in the opposite direction. He travels a little farther before deciding to head towards the pond. It weights on his mind on what it is that is out here. Not having enough time to look any longer, Cathán heads south towards the River of Flame.
It is dark as he goes in search of this pond Zigler was talking about, just the way he likes it. Jumping from branch to branch and running on the ground sometimes, Cathán makes his way with great speed.

Masamune watched as Baethor planted his sword into the snow, and noticed his still battle readiness. Masamune stepped down from the rock, moving around the back of it. He removed his blades from his waist, and set them down in the snow, resting against the stone. He moved a little from the blades, sitting down on the rock again, leaving enough room for the dwarf to take a seat as well, while still leaving some space between the two.
"Perhaps onee-san, but sometimes, even I need some time to myself. Some fresh air is needed, and a moment to relax."
Masamune looks over at his friend.
"So, it is true after all. You fight for the Jovians now...."
Masamune drops his head, not saying anything for a few moments.
"I guess asking why may be to simple a question?"

The light snow crunched under the hoofs of horses as a brightly colored cavalcade rode to the gate of Mittelmarch. It consisted of an armored knight and six men at arms all dresses in blue surcoats with gold triangles emblazoned, they were all well armed and armored, but their weapons lacked that magical tint that characterized most weapons in this land.
As they approached the gatehouse, several Jovian guards formed up, spears at the ready. The seargent in charge demanded, "Who are you, and what business have you here?"
Removing his helm, the knight exposed a bewhiskered and battle scarred face. With gravity and dignity he replied, "I am Sir Marmaduke de Bracy, vassal of The Sir Henry Percy, by the grace of God and the King of England Earl of Northumberland. I am come here by the request of the Earl to find his nephew, Alan de Percy, sometimes called Suihaden. I hereby request to see the governor of this town immediately."
"I'll convey your request to General Shatar immediantly." replied the Sargent. Leaving the gate he ran through the streets to the keep. As he entered the throne room, Shatar looked up from the table. The soldier saluted. "Sir, beg to report that a Knight by the name of Sir Marmaduke de Bracy desires to have an audience with you." "Bring him in."
A few minutes later the knight strode in and bowed. "Milord, I bring a message from milord the Earl of Northumberland. Milord the Earl, having need of his nephew Alan de Percy sometimes known as Suihaden, has sent me to discover his location and return his person to the earl. After many weeks of traveling I found myself in this strange heathen land. I have heard from the local peasants that Alan is being held here after a great battle for the control of this realm. I thereby demand possession of his person, or at least audience with him to discuss matters of grave importance." The grizzled knight looked Shatar in the eye. "Will you acced to my request?"
(Shatar please reply)

Cathán has been traveling for almost two days now. Still no sign of the pond that he is looking for. He starts to worry that he might actually not find this pond in time and show up empty handed. He follows the the River of Flame south and he is south of Mittelmarch were the Jovians won't be patrolling.
It's becoming daylight and Cathán decides to take a rest for a little. He finds that clearing he was talking about and climbs the one tree with no bark on it. He climbs to a point where it will be difficult for him to be spotted from the ground. Using the techniques he was taught for meditating, Cathán begins to concentrate and let his body relax and his mind to expand. Every time he meditates, it becomes easier and faster to do. In moments he is traveling through the Great Woods. Listening to everything around him, he tries to find the pond which the woods hold secret very well. What seems like hours, Cathán finds the pond with the water a very unnatural blue. He knows where it is finally and returns to where he is. When he opens his eyes it is late in the afternoon. The birds are chirping and there is a slight breeze blowing on his back. He stays there for a couple more hours resting before he heads south to where the pond is. Cathán is more confident than ever of where this place is. Very proud of his meditating and finding of another secret the Great Woods hide from the rest of the land, Cathán sprints with great eagerness.

Back in his room at the Kyuden Zigler lies down and stares up at the ceiling. "Whats to come will be hard, and will require stealth and guile," He says to himself. Allowing his thoughts to roam free Zigler relives his life before coming to MittelMarch and the lands Between. The parties, the celebrations, the feasts that he attended as a bard in Dugald's Court.
Angelina.
Thinking to himself,"Angelina, now there is a bittersweet memory. The reason I lived, the reason I stayed, and the reason I left." Allowing his thoughts to probe this sore tooth further Zigler draws up his memories of: Angelina at court, sitting a few chairs away from Dugald's throne. The emerald and gold dress she wore the first night we met. The way she always knew how to make me laugh. The way her fiery hair would flow when she danced. And the way her red blood stained the arm of Dugald's night shirt the night he killed her in front of my eyes.Rage fills me and fuels me as it did on that long age night. But instead of letting it submerge, before covering it up with flowers and soft grass as I had before, I hold on to it until it becomes a simmering fire that warms my whole body.
Zigler starts as someone knocks on the wooden panel that serves as a door. "Yes? Come in."
Kotaro enters and asks when I shall be ready to leave."Momentarily," is my response as I gather my belt pouches and knife. Adjusting the lay of my tunic I turn to him and say,"Let's be about it." With that the two men, the Wind Demon and the Bard head out to meet Cathan with Kotaro's disguised shinobi in tow.

As he pushes his simple cart on the local dirt road, Giles mumbles to himself in anger. Maybe he shouldn't have abandoned his brother to the wilds, but being exiled from his home has placed in a mood so foul that he cares not of what will happen to him or his brother. Still the night is cold and the stars are few in this cloudy night and almost any company would have some kind of entertainment. After all that is all he ever cared about
As he makes his way he notices a soldier standing guard at the road.
"What is your busi...ness...," the soldier starts but upon seeing the merchant he looked at him more closely. he saw that Giles' face was covered with a bone white mask that had a unique design on it.
The merchant deciding that less is more he tells the man, "I am but a simple merchant who finds he is lost in these lands, what can you tell me about this area?"
"This is the land of Mittlemarch, now ruled by the great Emperor Dracus Thrawn. He has claimed these lands to bring order to chaos."
Giles already hated this man; as he loved the idea of chaos, so easy to get lost in it, so easy to have fun with it.
Lost in thought he didn't hear the soldier's next question. "Hmm?" Giles said.
"Why do you wear that mask? Are you hiding something," the soldier asked moving closer with his hand resting on the hilt of his sword.
"No sir, I am just disfigured and all I have to hide my ugliness is this mask. Thank you for the knowledge of this area, and let me give you something to show my thanks, my very best elixir at no charge for one who serves the Emperor." He holds out a bottle of a clear green liquid that glitters despite the lack of light from the stars.
The soldier takes it greedily, his eyes saying he wanted more from him but will settle for this.
Leaving, Giles hears groaning, coughing, and choking seeming to happen all at once. The soldier dies silently enough to not be heard among this vacant road but loud enough just for Giles to hear him.
Unknown to the world at large as the mask looks ahead, down the dark and empty road, there is an evil grin appearing under it. A grin so big and so cold that one could wonder if the person under it is a demon or something worse.
As he pushes his cart with the wheels squeaking, there is a label in an ancient language are the words "Caveat emptor."

Oof walks into the safehouse, to find Nictmar and Goblin huddled up next to the fire. "Sorry I'm late Nichtmar an old friend of mine needed to speak with me. I trust my associate has kept you comfortable while you waited?" Oof nods to the messenger who departs. "So we have a lot to discuss my friend, perhaps you would like to come to the guild proper, instead of this place." Oof leads Nichtmar and Goblin out the door.

it's way into the night before the pond is found by Cathán. No stars and no moon out, yet the water is literally glowing with a blue radiance. Cathán is a little mesmerized by the pond. He comes close to it kneeling and looking in. He sees his reflection just as if he was staring into a blue tinted mirror. "What is so special bout this pond that Zigler wants some of it? It is beautiful."
Cathán takes his water skin and dips it into the pond, making sure he doesn't touch it with his hands. After filling it up. He puts the cork back on and attaches it to his belt. Curiosity gets the best of him and Cathán, being very cautious, cups his hand sticks it into the pond. It felt like water, very cold water. He brings his hand up with some of this liquid and takes a sip. The taste is like nothing he has ever had before. There's no words to describe what it tastes like. It gives him a warming sensation, kind of like his body is healing itself. He takes a couple more handfuls of this liquid and decides to rest here for the night.
While sitting against one of the tree trunks staring into the pond Cathán gets a glimpse of something moving on the other side of the small clearing. At first he thought it was his imagination, but then he saw it again. A female, he could not tell the race or really anything else for that matter. She was waving like she wanted him to follow. Without a second thought, Cathán gets up and follows. Not knowing where he is going and not able to get close enough to really see who she is, Cathán follows almost in a dream. The woman stopped and he caught up with her, still he doesn't know where he is. He looks at the woman and is startled and takes a few steps back. The woman is his dead mother. He had seen her die so long ago. "This can't be. Your not real. You died when i was 14. I saw you die."
"I'm as real as you are my son." she replies, her voice so smooth and soothing. She even sounds like his mother.
Confusion overtaking him, he doesn't care where she brought him. He heads off back in the direction in which he thought he had come, running as fast as he can. Not looking back Cathán runs for hours hoping to find the pond again. Confusion obscuring his since of direction, he passes the pond completely up and keeps running. After so long of running, Cathán slumps down next to a tree and passes out from exhaustion.
Morning comes and he awakes sweating and confused on where he is. Not sure what really happened the night before, he climbs the tree he was leaning against to see where he is. Surprisingly enough he is really close to the meet point and he is early. Cathán heads to the meeting place that's only an hour or so away. Casually walking recapping on what had just happened to him.

With Kotaro in the lead, Zigler explains thier part of the plan to the shinobi.
"Kotaro probably already told you this, but the idea is for you to chase me across the field as I run for the gates of Mittelmarch. You'll give me a five to eight second head start then come running out of the forest waving your swords menacingly. If things go right I'll be three-fourths of the way to the gates when you reach the halfway point. At that time you should act a little surprised and withdraw quickly from the Jovian forces coming out to meet you."
The shinobi grunt with dissatisfaction at this, and not without reason.
"I know, I know. You'd rather take them on, so would Kotaro. But what we have to do will not be acomplised by useless death, but with stealth. "
Zigler starts as he discovers that Kotaro is suddenly at his side. It never fails to surprise him how silently these Shogunate are.
"I see we're almost to the clearing," says Zigler after recovering from his surprise. "You bring the knife?"

Sitting up in the tree, Cathán listens to the group coming into the clearing. Feeling like playing jokes, he moves to another tree that will be behind the group once they look up the tree he told them about. Waiting very quietly Cathán watches as Zigler, Kotaro, and some of the shinobi come into the clearing. Kotaro spots the tree first and heads in that direction the others just behind him. All gathered under the tree trying to spot Cathán. He jumps from the tree he's in and lands behind them in an almost silent thump. "So who are you looking for in an tree" Cathán says with a grin on his face as the group is startled. They turn around in unison and Cathán tosses the water skin at Zigler. "I don't know what that stuff is, but I for one will never try it again."

Catching the skin in mid-air, Zigler responds to Cathan, "I didn't think you'd be the kind of person to be tempted by it. Although I'd say you came out of the experiance better than most. In the meantime, thanks."
Zigler salutes him with the skin. "We've got a little time before we have to head out agian, Cathan is there anything you need from me? I don't expect to reach the Guild Hall for a few days, and if you and Kotaro need to go over any plans we have the time. For the moment I need to know of at least two drop points I can use after you head back for the Shogunate. After that I don't need to know of anymore plans the two of you might concoct. I want information to be as tightly controlled as possible."
Zigler turns to Kotaro, "My friend there is an old Bardic saying from my parts, 'Ask me no questions and I shall tell you no lies.' I don't wish to lie to you Kotaro so suffice it to say that the waters are dangerous, and that if they are not given due deffrence, they can be one's undoing."
Zigler goes quiet as he looks at the water skin, his own experiance ith it fresh in his mind.

A slight smile flickered across Kotaro's sharp features. "Fair enough. Alright, your drop points are these: about two leages due south-east of here there is a mangled tree with a cavernous base. The entrance is masked by a bush of deep green leaves. The second is about a league due south. There is a rocky outcropping shaped like an eagle's beak next to a great tree. Beneath that outcropping is your drop point."
He looked to Cathan, speaking softly. "The more people involved in this operation, the more fragile it becomes for all involved. I only told Zigler two of the drops. I think only you and I should know the locations of all drops, to minimize the risk of exposure."
Turning back to Zigler, Kotaro drew out a small and unassuming knife he had prepared. It was the kind a mere bandit would carry and use, rough-hewn and utilitarian in construction. "Ready to begin your escape?" he said evenly.

"You would be surprised on how much things tempt me. As far as what I need from you is nothing. I'm planning on going into the city through the one place that's not really watched, the sewers. I'll wait at the guild to you get there so I know your ok. After that I'm heading back to the Kyuden to help out Masamune." Cathán says to Zigler.
Turning to Kotaro and speaking softly " You might be right but it's his plan he will know two spots and that's it." speaking louder " I'll give you the control of where to put the drop spots I will get that information later when I get back to the kyuden, just encase I do by chance get caught I don't have the information."

Zigler nods to Cathan," In that case you'd best be on your way. I'll be heading out shortly. Kotaro, tell your shinobi to get in place, as for the knife I'd preffer the left should....AHHHHH!"
Without waiting Kotaro quickly slid the blade into Zigler's left shoulder. Zigler's eyes begin to tear up with pain as he says, "Th...thanks. You guys had best get out of here." With that Zigler turns and starts running for the treeline, clasping his left hand to his belt to keep it from being jostled and biting his lip hard enough to draw blood.
Running past the last few trees Zigler sees the walls of Mittelmarch though the leaves. The pain in his shoulder is great as he continues to run for the gates. Barely halfway into the field and the Jovian guards are already mobilizing a small force when the shinobi burst through the trees, yelling and waving their swords. Seeing them the Jovians run past Zigler's stumbling form and attempt to give chase to the 'mercenaries'.
As Zigler approaches the bridge the two remaining guards lower their spears at him. Falling to his knees, panting heavily, and with blood running down his arm Zigler addresses the guards. "Mercs....taken....stabbed...Zigler Rob...Robertson, my name." The guards still did not lower their spears until a Sargent, walking toward the gates ordered them to take me to the Healing Center.
**********************
Sometime later Zigler is lying on his gut in the open hall of the Healing Center as he tells his story to the Sargent.
"I was out on walk about, with permission from Captain Kain, when I was blindsided by that bunch of lousy merc's. Did you get them by the way?"
"No," replies the Sargent, "but we are continuing to search for them."
"Well that's something at least," says Zigler.
"If you could tell us of their whereabouts...."
"Near or in the mountains east of here, they had me blindfolded most of the way."
"Where did they keep you and what did they"........
The questioning went on in this vein for some time, but Zigler had already gotten the information he was looking for. The shinobi and Kotaro had avoided the Jovian guard. Zigler starts paying more attention to the Sargent as the interview comes to a close.
"If we have anymore questions we will come back and ask. From what you've told us these mercenaries are probably either cowards that ran after we brought order, or they're members of that strange cult with the tower off to the east. The Healer's say that you'll be here for several days before you will be released. I'm sure we'll talk again."
With that the Sargent leaves and the Healers return to Zigler's bedside, checking his vitals and telling him to get some rest. In Zigler's experience all Healers say that and they always use too many bandages. Keeping an eye out for them, Zigler withdraws a round white pill from his pouch and smiles as he takes it. He won't be here for several days, two tops.

Cathán heads towards the sewers. Finding one of the entrances and realizing that the sewer was guarded, he waits till nightfall and watches for changing guards. When this happens, he slips into the sewer undetected. Once inside the walls of Mittelmarch, Cathán stays in the alleys going for where Zigler would've been taken. Once he finds what he believes is the Medic building, Cathán stays in the alley waiting for Zigler to be healed. He hides behind boxes and keeps his black cloak covered around him so none of his body shows.
