I thought this would be a good topic for several reasons. 1. As most of you know mittelmarch now stretches as far as columbus and the difficult part as with any new extension is getting ppl involved. 2. It'll be good to know how you becameinvolved in dag so maybe it'll help others recruit later on by knowing what draws ppl into the fray. 3. Getting the first ten or so southern mittelmarchers was a piece of cake but now it seems to be slow going and I'd like any tips anyone has that they think would help our numbers grow. Not only in southern mittelmarch but in northern, eastern, and western as well. In summation. What or who drew you to dagorhir and how would u suggest recruiting based on ur experiences. Love, Nova

Mine isn't the most ideal nor practical recruitment technique..........Oof grabbed my arm one day and said "You follow Oof" I was then literally dragged to the nearest practice field. Good luck turning that into a standard recruitment policy.

It sounds like a fairly sound plan Zig; although optimum effectiveness is achieved only with an Oof.
I got in when Zero found some youtube vid's and showed them around saying "Hey this looks kinda dorky but it beats playin MMO's."

me and nichty brought ourselves in. we went to star wars convention 04 and they had an edhellen booth. they told us about bel, nichty did some research and found we had a closer dagorhir field in central indy. and ta-da dwarf and ogre.
some people go to gaming places like game preserve or the like, and put up posters with some pictures of guys in combat, the kind with the little tabs that info like our website and dagorhirs website.

I got pulled in by Nichtmar, but i would say college campuses are a great place to recruit, I would see if you have anybody who goes to IUPUC and see if you can get a practice going there, might get a few hits in that

I was scopin the chicks on Myspace when I ran into it on a random myspace page. And I think when I showed it to Stubbie we both agreed not to play at first. Then I found Eryndor's blue sword tutorial and decided to make a few swords. Then at night we would go in my garage and fight it out where no one could see us. I told everyone I'd never play in public or at a park or anything like that. Next thing you know I'm totally playing wherever. And if I'd seen it first on Role Models I totally wouldn't have played at all probably. It just didn't seem like a good Rep for the game which I guess that game was more of a larp?

I met Aroodo first. He lived up the street from me in Newburgh (Fangorn), showed me and a few neighborhood kids a few things one night, and I never left.
Personally, I think one of the best ways to get people involved is by word of mouth. Encouraging our friends who already play to tell others who might have an interest is a great start. I never thought I would end up swinging foam sticks around and actually take it seriously; you might be surprised who you talk to and who might be interested. A flier can only have so many words on a page, so just talking about it and spreading the word that way is a great way to start.
Other than that, I agree with Oof. College campuses, game stores, or even book stores would be good places to try. Fliers with numbers to contact yourself, a link to the Mittelmarch boards, or the main Dagorhir website would be great references.
I would make sure that if you do go around posting fliers everywhere, make it known that it's not just around Indianapolis. Someone that might see a flier may think it's a local group or a club, when in reality there are locations all over the place. Recruiting for our own realm is great, but if people understood how big Dag really was, they might be more interested. Good Luck :]
*This weekend at BSU was great recruitment for the new realm. As soon as the other students there saw a bunch of weirdos with foam sticks having a good time, they all wanted to jump in. You just gotta make it fun!

My advice is to take a blue sword to every social event imaginable. Show it to people who'd be interested. Show it to people anyway, as a conversation starter. I joined up because someone in my dorm freshman year always had his sword sitting out in his room and would regail my dormmates and me with stories. Eventually almost half of our hall started going to practices.

Game Stores, Movie Openings, Campuses. Be sure to garb up and look good.
If you wear garb, they will come.
Also to add to Baethors story, If it wasn't for Bishop finding me lost on the Belegarth boards I would probably never had found Dag. Cuz there's no Bel Realms in Indianapolis. So check the boards.

I think the best way to recruit folks is to be outgoing and invite the folks who come to watch at practice. That and to practice where there is a lot of foot traffic.
I usually am so busy fighting that I don't notice who is there watching but when I do I try to make a point of inviting them to try it. Most folks are too shy to come up and ask even if they want to try. Hence the drive by shouting...
You could always designate someone at the practice to go and educate the curious.
I did notice we got a lot more folks coming up (5-10 practice. I'm not kidding) to check us out when we were practicing more centrally at Holiday park near the walking paths.
/edit: I'd also suggest having some flyers/cards printed out with some phone numbers/websites on it so folks can really check it out. They aren't going to remember the sites/info otherwise.

Hey, I'm going to be that guy right now... Was wondering if anyone has flyers related to Dag or Mittelmarch. I'm presenting an introduction speech this Wednesday and I'm using one of my blues as a visual aid (as well as the aforementioned flyer, if said flyers exist). Let me know.

Sweet deal. It doesn't matter how nice they look; it's just something I'm going to pass around. Might post it up on a bulletin board around the campus afterwards. Thanks man.
