ok this is another attempt at a temporary quick fix. I think i read somewhere that wood is an acceptable core for swords so i wanted to run it by you guys first. and if so, what kind of wood? i've heard bamboo...but that would seem difficult to build around when you can get a 1/2in square oak dowel or something? any help is appreciated, and yes i'm aware of the simplicity of just ordering quality cores but i'm stubborn about the "I wanna fix this now and not wait how ever many days the new cores get to me" lol. I am ordering them, but for temporary purposes...i need a weapon that hasn't failed as all mine have XD

I don't see how you can "recore" something as a 'quick-fix", unless you mean shoving a dowel up into PVC.
Otherwise just go snag you some PVC and rebuild. Wood does work but my experiances with it (1/2" round birch dowel)...they snap. Quick. Like 3 fights.

The problem with wood is that it has very little flex room before breaking. Bamboo is light and good for green-only weapons, but aren't strong enough laterally to withstand sustained abuse.

Or... if you're cheap as all hell like I am, continue to buy PVC until you are financially comfortable with buying fiberglass. Because it ain't cheap. I'm probably going to keep using PVC until: A) All of my equipment breaks... all of it. Or B) Someone finally screams at me to buy fiberglass. Seriously, that may be all it takes. I'm a bit skittish at times.

Dorian: BUY FIBERGLASS!!!!1!!1!one!!
Kaeru: Fiberglass is relatively cheap, it's just the shipping that's a monster. I know you haven't had much luck so far with those driveway markers, but they've worked for everyone else....you just have to but them going the direction of the blade. The narrow section should be blade edge, and the wide side should be the flat.

Some golf clubs are made of fiber glass. Then just cut the club off and build with it. lol.

golf clubs work great however, and yeah it depends on the thickness of bamboo, but usually it breaks

Thanks guys, I'm still learning this stuff and I tend to be stubborn when trying to build stuff. I'll always keep looking for other methods but the fact here is that going ahead and order the fiberglass is the best option.... it's more expensive than normal, but if you add up the loss in other cores, and also you can reuse it if your blade does fail after awhile. I'm actually pretty sure I can salvage what I have, but you're right, just order the cores.
