What about bending the core? Not a right angle mind you but you ought to be able to bend it with much better success then solely using foam. I've never had issues with my bent weapons. Minimum red ought to work with pvc. I've yet to attempt bandshop poles. I have no idea if they are bendable or not.

Bending Fiberglass is pretty much impossible. I'm no expert but I believe that something with how it's made makes trying to bend it weaken it tremendously.
Also, Fiberglass fumes are highly toxic. :/

It's physically impossible to bend fiberglass, it must be formed that way wet and the epoxy that binds it together hardens around the fiberglass strands, making into that shape.

you can heat up fiberglass and make it bend Believe me, I've seen fiberglass tubs melted into weird shapes from a house fire. Like I said though, it probably wasn't near as structurally sound as when it was extruded or what have you.

Fiberglass tubs? What the heck you need fiberglass tubs for?

we call it bathing in the civilized world As for bending pvc, i've found anything bent more then 30ish degrees will snap after a couple of practices, in my experience anyways. So you'd never get a bent PVC pipe that would be sturdy enough to withstand prolonged combat, or you'd just have a curved glaive, not a scythe.

Ive seen and used a few of Galea's curved PVC weapons and they are durable. In counterpoint, if I bend PVC, it breaks inside ten practices.

It all has to do with how you bend it When I bend Pvc, I use a heat gun and a bladeless pipe threader to turn the pipe for me. It's rather nifty and keeps it from being heated to much in one place. ~Firoth

I subscribe to the "pour boiling water into a pipe, cap it, place it in a form and let cool overnight" method.

I had a friend who left his swords in his car on a hot day. He said they were like butter when he went to go get them. That might work but im not sure how long they would need to be in the car and how hot. However with indiana weather the hot part shouldnt be too hard to achieve.

Lol. I personally use a stove top to bend my pvc. Although I did use a grill once. I didnt realize he was talking specifically about fiberglass as a core.
Additionally I wouldnt go for a total bend of the pvc at one point but a gradual curve that makes like 50% of the scythe. Using the foam to make the rest of the curve. The bent pvc would just act as a support to what would otherwise be an easily broken weapon.

I'm not sure i follow your meaning. But that sounds like it'd be one funky looking scythe. And i would still bet money on it breaking before long.
Scythes are just not effective as weapons. They've been way to glorified over the years through anime or cartoons or other movies, fact is its still a tool used to cut grain, or reap souls, but only if your the grim reaper. I've never understood peoples fascination with the farming implement, and will continue to laugh whenever one breaks on the field despite its creator thinking they can make it work.
Just saying.

I completely agree, I don't think it's really a feasible weapon. It would be something neat to walk around camp with but it'd likely break if used. Just trying to brainstorm abit. Most scythes keep the core straight and just place a long couple pieces of foam for the blade. Which would be very unstable. If the core could help support that blade more it might be functional. But I'm not about to waste the materials to test it out.

of the 3 scythes i have seen i havnt seen anyone dumb enough to make a blade without a core, not for a scythe they intend to use anyways.
And making a weapon just to walk around camp with? That just seems like wasted material and time to me.

I'm locking this thread because frankly it's dumb. Scythes have been tried time and again in dag, and it has been stated that 90% of them fail because they are very difficult to make. That having been said if you think you can make a legal scythe my statement is this bring it and we will check it without predudice, and if it is judged safe it will pass, otherwise it will fail it is that simple.
