hi i saw the wreckreation nation episode of dagorhir and i really thought it looked interesting. so naturally i researched it a little, i found out some events i want to attend, ( this one and the other one in ohio... i live in Northwest ohio). ANYWAYS... im not sure what to do about weapons and armor/garb so i got a couple of questions...
( i want dual wielded swords, and also arrows and a bow) 1. will there be armour and weapons i can buy at the actual event? and if so how much do they cost normally?
2. or should i make them, i looked at the directions for making the sword and it all seemed overwhealming, and way out of my league to make
3. or should i just buy my stuff online? ive seen the swords for 28 dollars, but where is a good place to buy arrows, and a bow?
4. and does it take long to make weapons... if not could i buy all the materials and go to a practice and have someone help me?

Hey there vince, it's glad to hear that Wreckreation Nation brought us another new fighter Before you think about coming to major events, I would really suggest that you attend some local practices first. This way, you can become familiar with the rules, as well as garb requirements and how to wield a weapon safely. Most realms are incredibly happy to have new people and are willing to spend time teaching them about all of the questions you have asked. Almost any weapon in Dagorhir can be made for VERY little money and with just a few tools. Please also know that the minimum age for Dagorhir is 16 to fight WITH a notarized waiver signed by a parent, or 18 without being signed. You are really lucky living in Ohio, as it is the home of one of the largest realms in Dag, called Eryndor. If you get on their website, www.eryndor.com/, I'm sure you can find a practice within driving distance of you. Not only are they one of the largest realms, they are also by far one of the friendliest, and we are very happy to call them our friends and allies. They also have a message board linked to their website, and will be the best source for most of your information. Glad to have you joining us, if there are any more questions you may have, feel free to get ahold of us any time! Welcome to Dagorhir!

hey thanks! that is very helpful, and i am currently 17 turning 18 a few days before the the major event so it works out perfectly... and is eryndor's sight down? i cant seem to get on it. and do you have any idea how long a sword would take to make if i had all of the materials, as well as how long for arrows? and what kind of bow to use?

If you google "Eryndor", and click on the first link then it will work.
It really depends on your own pace of working. Your first sword or two will take longer than the rest, but you save a LOT of money doing it yourself. You really need to try to make it out to a practice before you even try to build weapons though. That way you can see and feel in person what a safe, passing weapon feels and looks like.
As for bows and arrows, you really should be in the game for a while before you think about that. Many realms require you to pass a safety course before you can even arch on the field. Archery is the most dangerous part of our sport and really requires experience and knowledge of construction techniques and archer safety protocol.

Welcome. Hope you have some fun hitting folks.
At the top of this smithing board/page/whatever there is a topic called buying weapons website. Check that out if you have $.
The prices are high but for nonartistic lazy buggers like me it is a godsend.
Also, the weapons are very well made. That said, expect them to be destroyed after a year or two of hard use.
Even so, this is about the least expensive sport you could become involved in...

It helps the costs of the sport even more if you can make your own garb, as some of us can. But even so, its generally cheaper paying someone to make you garb than buying at,say online sites or RenFaires

Goodwill will become your friend, very quickly in this game.
Standard noobie issue garb can be made from a pair of sweatpants, or pajama pants, or scrubs, and if you buy a polo shirt and cut off the collar and buttons, you have a basic peasents shirt for like 2 bucks.
Also walk over to the womens belts, you'd be surprised how many of them look cool in dagorhir.

hmmm not for basic.... I bought my basic battle garb for 20 or so and it was wrap pants and a shirt. but as they said just scrub pants or what else they mentioned just too see if you like making your own garb. I tried to make and failed so I had others make my dress garb. Although every one in Mittelmarch now calls me gay for my dress garb......

Actually, tabards would be fairly easy to make. Just go to Joann's Fabrics, buy X amount of white cloth, fold it over, cut a oval/circle for your head, then paint the cross on it with acrylic red paint from Walmart. Then buy a medieval-looking belt to hold it together. Buy scrub pants from Walmart. If you do it right, this won't cost you over $15-$20. Gives you the pride of making your own stuff as well. Instant newbie garb.

Easier yet just buy the red at Jo-Ann's over in the paint display is like 67 cents a bottle.

Socks! Black are preferable. They stretch and are cheap. Get the size you like for it!

you can also double up black pantyhose from what I hear, though it's REALLY easy to sew your own cover and it will look MUCH better.

^ What he said^
Seriously, take it from a guy who used socks for a long time, sewn covers look much better. Socks are convenient, but it's really worth it.

Except that socks are ugly. They make a good replacement if your cover gets catastrophically ripped or otherwise ruined, but they should NEVER be a first choice. Seriously, sewing a cover yourself is stupid easy. If I can do it, you can.

if you go to the womens department of walmart you can find single leg stockings that are usually pretty good. those are the fastest and easiest.
