Now, let me just state beforehand that I in NO way condone nor encourage rhino-hiding. Quite the opposite in fact, as I think it's one of the few things that ruins the mood at battles. Cheating always puts people in a negative mindset.
Anyway, I just wanted to use your time to say the following:
From here on out, I am going to make a conscious effort to avoid taking glancing, super-light, and garb-only shots to my being, which I would have otherwise taken in the past as a limb or death.
Now, I won't be doing this to be a douche. I want to try and fix a recurring problem that I've been noticing in our newbies.
Many of our new peeps have been buttering, letting others run into their swords, or doing this weird half-hearted thrust swing that ends up leading to confusion. These are NOT correct striking techniques.
So, as a result, I will be altering how I judge being hit. I still believe fully in the "Hit Hard, Take Light" motto, but I will only take it if it's actually a solid hit, not just a weapon that managed to make contact with me.
Hopefully some of this will make sense, and maybe other experienced people that can accurately judge a hit will try to follow suit.
Thank you for your time,
~Firoth

Pretty sure if you asked the other experienced people, they'd say they're already doing it.
Just going to throw that out there.
But good for you.

When I came to practice a few weeks back I noticed people where hitting light and making glancing strikes. That was the practice when the muncie peeps came down and it had a couple newbies. I took good solid hits, even if they were a bit light, but called out garb and glancing. But thats what I always do.

Dorian you'd be surprised. I know a few of our older members that'll take anything that will hit them, just like me.

This sounds like an excellent idea. I try to be nice to people and take weenie tap hits and glances, but i think i'm just hindering them in the long run. No more of that. Also: at some point a rumor got started that there is no such thing as a "light" green, meaning I've had people call their stabs on me (a big no no) when I literally felt nothing whatsoever. This isn't a MM specific problem, but something i've noticed here and there. Greens are not under the projectile rule that the weapon just has to deflect. A noticeable force is still required. I realize this is a little trickier to calibrate due to foam compression and the felt "force" in the wielder's hand, but still something we should watch.

Well, it's not so much the impact force that I judge my hits by, its more of the actual impact area. I still won't call light hits unless it's pure crap.
I'll take greens as long as they stick for atleast a split second. I know that unless people make an effort to make their stabby covers out of wool, or make them concave or similar, its hard for stabbies to get a solid hit on a limb. Acknowledging this, I try to take any green that makes contact with me. That's, again, a personal thing though.

P.s. You should never call your own shots. :/ That's just poor form. If they don't take it, just swing harder.
