I have always wondered what others have thought about the increasingly large market of dag weapons for purchase online and what you thought of others who purchased these weapons. I would love to own one or two just for their looks and apparent durability but what about the rest of you?

I personally like to make my own weapons, but that's only because I'm legendarily cheap.

How much practice do you have in making weapons? No-one starts out proficient. If you're intent on buying weapons, I am required to shamelessly plug my unit-mate's stuff: sanjuroarmory.hyperboards.com

I made one with a hockey stick and it shattered but after that no one helped me make more so I used community or had my friend build my now current red out of pvc. So very little knowledge. I am not planning on buying one, I meant if I was it would be one with dap that has amazing designs to it

Now one more question. Since I have not trained with you guys would but I have with other groupds would I still be stuck on the no red rule? I may make another blue and dagger but I still prefer my red but I will follow all rules I just like to make sure.
Those guides really make it look easy.

It is really easy. Making weapons is incredibly, stupid easy. The biggest thing is to take your time and make sure you do things clean and do things right. Take the time to make sure you have straight edges, and follow the old guideline "Measure twice, cut once", and your weapons will look good and, more importantly, hold up to more abuse.
The no red thing is much more of a guideline than a hard and fast rule. The main idea is that we don't want you conking people out left and right. If you can show yourself to use it safely and in control at all times, then you should be fine.

Alright I may try my hand at a simple blue sword, a dagger, and maybe a glaive but thats only if I have some extra cash

That's the ticket. Also, cloth covers look WAY better than nylons or sock covers. Just sayin'.
EDIT: I think what you're referring to by dap is actually PlastiDip, but you should wait a while until you're comfortable building weapons before trying PD.

I have no sewing talent either, but it's really quite simple once you get the hang of measuring and pinning. Seriously, I have the sewing skills of a leper with palsy and I can do it.

A blind leper with palsy, that's being weaned off heroin and using grain alcohol to cope. After being in a motorcycle accident..... jk.

i don't know the weapons you posted look a bit more like latex molded blades than plasti-dip, but still yeah only thing is i have yet to see a weapon with the striking surface covered in plasti-dip that did not fail for hits too hard, and yes we will make you fight single blue or sword and shield first at your first practice, just sometimes we know the person, or you can prove to us you know what you are doing within 30 seconds, if that's the case cool, if not we will talk at the time

Thanks oof, Ill make a single blue then for that practice and maybe fix up my red (dumb stabbing tip ripped) so ill just make that into a single edged non stabbing for later down the road. Whats the maximum length for a blue?

Technically no maximum length, as even the longest and heaviest red hits blue when used one handed. But the borderline for a red is 48" and 24 oz.

Maximum length for a blue is 47" from the very bottom of the pommel to the very tip of the sword.
As far as making/buying. I will most likely be buying a sword in the future, but I've had better luck fighting with swords I've personally made because I can make the handles how I like.
For example, I hate Axe/arrows handles because they are way too narrow, and I don't really like Edhellon's because they're round. The ones I personally make are rectangles, and are waaaaay easier for me to control and hold on to.

I buy my swords from edhellen because i suck at cutting blades. But i usually still put a lot of time in tricking them out, reweighting and custom building the handle and pommel. Gives me the best of both sides because i can be comfortable with my own designs but have a strong straight blade that i can't achieve. I usually build my own axes and clubs though, i'm not a fan of edhellens clubs... www.edhellen.comyou can also buy sword kits from them that comes with all the materials all you have to do is adhese it all together. Way cheaper then buying a sword.

I'm going to be blasphemous and say that Edhellen is grossly overpriced. I still recommend making your own weapons at first (shock). If your edges look like a meandering riverbed after a few tries, then yes, buy pre-made.

You pay for convenience. I wouldnt make a weapon unless you have someone with you that has done it before so you can make it right(if you havent made one). Nothing worse than spending days on a sword only to have it fail at weapons check.

You'd be surprised at how little you waste once you get the technique down.
