Just a few simple questions I'm not quite clear on. 1) Do I have to come from a real place, an already thought-up fictional place (i.e Narnia), or can I just come up with my own name of a village in the middle of whoseville from the land of Uz? XD 2) I can go quite deep, but how deep is too deep, and how lacking is too lacking in depth of history? I really want to keep it simple, but knowing me, I will write 10 pages about my childhood before I get started on the main plot. T__T 3) Does my name have to mean something, come from somewhere, or have any purpose as to why my parents dubbed me me? 4) Do any/all plot scenarios including a curtain overlord or King have to be a specific 'real' person or, as asked earlier, can I just make them up? 5) Is there by chance a "template" of sorts I could use to give my character's "bio" a better feel to it instead of just writing a giant story and letting you get the idea of what wields, wears, likes to do, etc. ? If any of the answers regarding just making something up is a yes, it does have to already be a real/fictional person/place/thing, where might I find the resources to base off of? Really, I'd like to just make up my own stuff, but I'm willing to cope. A quicky about garbs: Would "flip-flops" be illegal for thong strapped footwear? =s Danku wel.

You might want to be a little more creative then the Land of Uz. But you can come from almost anywhere so long as you realize that your in MittelMarch now.........(Mr T from off stage : Fol!)
2) I can go quite deep, but how deep is too deep, and how lacking is too lacking in depth of history? I really want to keep it simple, but knowing me, I will write 10 pages about my childhood before I get started on the main plot.
No advice here, wait for one of the more experienced to respond.
3) Does my name have to mean something, come from somewhere, or have any purpose as to why my parents dubbed me me?
No. If you want we can give you a name?
4) Do any/all plot scenarios including a curtain overlord or King have to be a specific 'real' person or, as asked earlier, can I just make them up?
You can make them up, just don't use names of other people in Dag w/out their permission.
5) Is there by chance a "template" of sorts I could use to give my character's "bio" a better feel to it instead of just writing a giant story and letting you get the idea of what wields, wears, likes to do, etc. ?
Try the "Getting to know you threads 1 & 2
If any of the answers regarding just making something up is a yes, it does have to already be a real/fictional person/place/thing, where might I find the resources to base off of?
huh?
A quicky about garbs: Would "flip-flops" be illegal for thong strapped footwear?
That would be a bad idea. You'll need something that at least grabs onto your heel so the foot doesn't slip off the damn thing in battle, and remember other people will be wearing boots, steel toed and otherwise.

Well I'm not really from the land of Uz, it was just a funny demonstration. Er... I've already thought of a name... Does it have to coincide with anything related to this group? I'm alright with getting a new one if need be. Thanks a lot. I'll definitely not wear flops. XD

really its all up to you on this. you can be like just basic what your character looks like with name and where he originally came from before he got to mittelmarch. or as deep as mapping out your world giving cities and your family names. reason why your traveling. delimas of any kind. its all up to how much you want to put into it.
as far as name thats your choice to it doesnt have to mean anything or coincide with mittelmarch. like my name is celtic and i desided to actually look this up and its meaning, but there's people like goblin and thats him. just goblin. so that is your decission to, but beware if you want us to give you one cuz it definately might not be as good as what you might hope. lol

Oh okay. I'm just a little confused on some of the geography and history of, well... Existence. Haha. But I guess most people are a little confused on such things when first starting out. I got my story up and character bio, etc. I didn't go too deep, really. Mainly because I'm getting carpel tunnel and I couldn't type much more. XD And because I realized how hard its going to be to remember all that and explain it to people I meet. lol. My name doesn't really mean anything, my friend helped me make it up. I really wanted something celtic, but I sort of noticed a lot of celts names so I just decided to make it Asian. XD

If you want the backstory/history of MittelMarch and The Land Between the Lands. Check out the main site (mittelmarch.com) and read the Library section.

i'm going to tell you what i tell everyone. Mittelmarch is a very diverse group, we come from all walks of life and all sect of humanity, and thus our characters do as well. We do not hold restrictions on characters of any kind, but we reserve the right to poke fun at you if its to rediculous. (I.E Noob: I am the son of a master swordsman, and one day i found out he was an evil dragon who i had to defeat, then my own dragon heritage allowed be to destroy him and my masterful sword skills were reknoend through the lands! Baethor: ...Ah've still never heard of ye, and i don' care why yer' scalie, an' ahm still gonna smack ya around until ye get yer footwork right. ) and of course i've laughed to no end at the half dragon-weredrow. actually we have more eastern personas in Mittelmarch then western, to be honest. just so you know,
