If it hits you, even a shield or weapon, you die.

One thing I really wanted to see last Rag was for a catapault, loaded with grape shoot, be let lose on the opposing line. And then everybody shouts "ROCK!"

a note on crossbows, they are allowed at this point, but there is an ongoing debate on them at the rag war council, the rules for crossbows are different than bow rules and while i can't remember the draw weight there is a maximum that can be found in the manual of arms.

you can make your craossbow check out boyscout crossbows then modify the heck out of it. as for black weapons ive only sen relics with that power we should make rules on them. like who can have them and what has to be done to make and mark them

So hey, I've been considering becoming an archer myself (albeit a not-as-effective one, as the bow I'd be using has only a 20 lb. draw and my arrows are shorter than 28". Still, the fly far enough to be used in a small battle) and I recently stumbled across something: Do we have to wrap our arrows in tape? Why was this precaution made? The explanation I've been able to come up with would be arrow shafts splintering, but in that case would a full covering be necessary? I figured a single, spaced spiral of tape would suffice, but please correct me, for I am certainly new.

You only have to tape your arrows if they are made of wood or fiberglass (excluding the red safety arrows that are specifically designed not to come apart when they break). The reason for this precaution is that carbonfiber arrows are more likely to break than splinter, and aluminum can only bend. If I were you I'd try for either the red safety arrows or one of the two non-taped arrow types. It's definitely an important precaution either way, considering how much damage a splintered arrow can do both to the firer and the person that could potentially get hit. ~Frothy

Cool, so I should probably try to find some non-splintering arrows. Still, I have one that is fiberglass, and so once again, could I simply do a single, spaced-out spiral? Or is that still a safety hazard?

It would probably be a good idea to wrap it completely unless it is safety glass. :\ Sorry.
