I have one of those noodles that you use to float on at a pool the foam is 1.5" thick with about a 1" hole. It is fairly hard to compress so i think it might be closed-cell foam, so could I use it for padding on everything except for the tips?

It's good for courtesy padding on hafts. If you're making blades, I suggest Ozark Trail brand camping pads from Wal-Mart.

I just find the Wal-mart brand easier to make blades from because it's easier to measure and cut due to its flat shape. If you're making a staff, the noodles are a good first layer if you cut them along one side to apply glue inside.

It's a touch more complicated than that, but yeah, basically.

Staves are blue only. If you want it to be green as well, both ends must pass as green.

noodles can be used on the hitting surface, but it would be for a mace only. and then a layer of blue foam around it. its a really good and quick way to make weapons for newbs. when i first started my florintine mace set way made of funnoodles and a layer of blue foam. it lasted for bout 7 months before i had to repare any part of it.

actually funoodle is a great building material for a weapon, and needs no additional padding if it is wide enough to pass weapons check. It is closed cell foam so no it cannot be used on stabbing tips by itself. I have seen good funoodle swords made, and they work just fine as dag weapons, just make sure they pass all the requirements for weapons in the first place, and they will work fine

Errr....well Oof you are both right and wrong. -Some- brands of funnoodle are great. Some are fantastically terrible. One must be very careful as there is no real visible difference between the good and bad ones. It's by brand, though, to the best of my knowledge.

If it's bad you'll know. It has a tendency to be complete broken down and unsafe within the course of a practice.
Even the good stuff, though, in my opinion breaks down worse than blue foam.

yea your right bout that but still for a biggener it's at least a start for some weapons that's quick and easy to build.

I like my lightsaber. *ducks out of reach I actually made a sword at Gen-Con a few years ago. It was made using the noodle method. After I found Dag I slightly altered it to be heavy enough for Dag rules and have used it quite a few times. I am working on using my other sword, though, that is made of camping foam and is shaped like a sword. I don't know if I really have a point to all this rambling but I thought I'd share.
