After Failing my first attempt to make anything...in dag....I took Stubbies advice in talking to Beard, about him making me a shield...And Beard said to me " There nothing like making something and taking the field with it, knowing you made it. " Welp...3 days, a spilled can of Dap, and a room full of blue foam later... I now have a 5 lair Punch shield. And the main point of this thread is to ask where do you get the awesome shield covers ?

Fabric store. Probably want duck cloth or somthin thick and strong, u can duct tape it down or sew a draw string
If u duct tape. Use layers and keep it clean, no jaggies

I am still embarrassed by my duct-tape job on my punch shield. It's really bad. Draw-string is the way to go.

Mine is complete duct-tape on the back and i've never been criticized for it. It's easy, and if you have a pure foam shield, you'll never really need to take it off for repairs. Just be neat when you put it on and you'll be fine.

Awesome man, glad your ambitious enough to get things done.
Man up and sew you a draw string cover, you won't regret it.

i have to differ with you guys on the type of cloth for this one though, duck cloth while heavy and durable, is kinda prone to fray when sewn, and is very stiff when you first get it, my suggestion would be a trigger cloth, lighter than duck and a bit more forgiving, but still durable enough to use as a cover

Frankly Brom I highly suggest that you use gun cotton, not only would sewing it be simple, but it would make shield bashing a heck of alot more.....interesting.

Nice work dude. Most cloths that Dorian and I pick up come from Joann's Fabrics, and we aim for materials that are $5 or less per yard. Gun Cotton is probably more expensive and people might prefer you go for a different material due to guncotton's tendency to have... explosive... results. Also, just wondering, what are the dimensions of your shield? It was a bit hard to tell by the picture.

I'm all for getting a deal, but typically what is under $5 a yard is......thin. As in, rips easily thin.
I tend to use twill, it's one step below denim. Triggers a good option as well.

Welp unfortionetly all my extra mula went to making the shield and buying the glue and stuff...so cloth will have to wait a week or so.. Im thinking im gonna go with Trigger Cloth And my sowing...is something worse than horrible...so of course...im gonna attempt it.lol The shield was supposed to be a 2 wide 3 foot long... but since im so terrible at cutting stuff...Its most definitely not .

Lol a good pair of shears does wonders for cutting man. I dunno where they came from but I got some heavy duty shears I found in the garage and they cut the blue foam vveerrryyyy nicely.
Covers ain't gotta be pretty man, just functional. I've found it SO much easier to do a draw string cover to take your shield dimensions, add thickness + 4inches to EACH side, cut your material, run your cording around the perimeter of the material, leaving 6-8 inches for tail....
then....
Get a stapler and roll your cord in the fabric, leave 1/2" or so for a seam. Run staples down the seam to hold and MAKE SURE YOU TAKE THE STAPLES OUT AS YOU SEW. Seriously, hitting a staple %$^@'s your sewing up ALL up. Pins can be used but....I find staples much easier to work with.
Make sure you roll your cord onto the BACK side of your material....if it were to matter. As in place it along the red side of a red / inverse black material.

I have a question. What can a shield not be covered in. My aunt has a tarp company and has made a cover but i was concerned that it could not be used. Its not a plastic material it feels just like duct tape

There's no honest set rule for shield cover material. The basic rule is to make sure it doesn't add extra pain and won't tear somebody's cornea. That being said, some realms tend to fail things on principle more than actual application or interpretation of the rules. So there's definitely some gray area. Best bet would be to bring it out to a practice and have one of us that has been in the game for a while and is allowed to herald/ lead weapons check take a look at it.

Sounds like a sort of vinyl, but definitely bring it out to be checked.
Most of concern is: will it cause abrasion to bare skin. Obviously test by rubbing it across bare skin, slowly at first.

Well i tested by rubbing my hand on my cloth covered weapon and then my shield cover. The result was that there was more friction on the weapon so its safe to assume that its okay. I also have pictures if you would like to see. It was built as a back shield to look like a turtle shell and i still need to add straps so i can hold it on my arm even though the back straps are there
