Hey everyone Im new to this group. I moved down to Lebanon from Michigan where I was part of the Welcrie. Any advice? I have not played in months and am kind of having withdrawals. But any advice is greatly welcomed. I prefer 2 handed swords if that is needed.

Come to practice and join in the fun! All that's really necessary.
Practice starts at 4:30 on Tuesdays at Lawrence Park in Lawrence, IN.
On Saturdays, practice starts at noon at Holliday Park in Broadripple, IN.
I don't know what sort of advice your looking for exactly, but your welcome to come and fight with us any time.
On a side note, I can't say I'm familiar with Welcrie. (Though a bit of Google-fu told me plenty)

Well thank you, as soon as I can get some more gas money I will be driving down for practices but its just that no job slump that makes it hard.
Just general all around advice. Whatever could be useful.

I can use reds pretty well, which I prefer to fight with but I also love to have a green stuck in my belt . I actually killed a king once with a double green thrust.... Most epic kill I have done single or dual welding blues I am not very profecient in, I prefer the length of reds compared to blues. Now I have major trouble with spear users and using spears but I hope that just takes time.

General advice I give everyone:
Come to practices, fight everyone, nomatter how awesome or intimidating you think they are at first. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Ask questions and accept pointers and lessons.
Learn to use single blue. If you can fight well with single blue, you can fight with anything. It's the base of our entire fighting system. Not learning it is like taking karate without learning a straight punch.
Don't be afraid to be agressive. Weapons are foam, you're not going to really kill anybody. Just make sure you're not whacking people in the head.

Aye, in MM we actually have a house rule that new people with little fighting experience must fight single blue or sword and board to start, to learn the basics of control and calibration. Once we think your proficient with that then we allow them to use reds. Its all safety reasons from most of us vets getting dinged in the head to often with reds lol.
I fought red most of my starting career to, but i've shifted to become a better s/b and single blue fighter meself. We're all pretty tough out here so dont feel like you have to tap fight cause we wont hold back on ya most of the time.
Our other house rule is hit hard and take light. If you feel a solid contact then take it, helps keep things flowing if people dont have to wonder about hits.

I love the take light rule since most people who I fought with in the Welcrie were honost we had a few "vets" who refused to take hits or accept reds on shields, saying they were light.
Now Since I am new to MM but not Dag in general would the only blue require me? The only weapon I actually own is indeed a red since I am not skilled in weapon smithing yet. Or are community weapons available?

Lots of people have an extra sword or two laying around, so it shouldn't be hard to borrow one at practice. As for foamsmithing, swords are one of the easiest things to build. If you're interested, we could try to put together a building workshop.

Thats always great, I just wish I had cash laying around for gas to make it there. Being jobless makes this a heck of a lot harder then it should be. Now as for cores what do you guys recommend? I had a red made out of a hockey stick once but that broke within two practices but my pvc pipe red has lasted for quite some time, it just flexes like crazy.

a red core should really be some form of fiberglass, pvc i have found has a tendency to snap or fails for flex

I agree it seems to want to flex alot but it passed at the both events ive been to. So maybe I had some relaxed inspectors then. Ill bring it when I can make a practice and have you guys inspect them. I would prefer fiberclass but being a poor college student it would have cost me way to much.

Could also just be because its a fresh pvc core, or a short one. I usually break pvc reds accidentally at weapon checks because i never assume someone would make a red with it I'd prefer to see you fight before i pass judgement, if you've been doing it for a couple months then you may have enough control for it to be fine. But if people start getting domed we'll probably hand you a blue lol P.S. wood cores are a bad idea to. they splinter when they break.

And we'll show you how to throw a better red shot to shields.

My red, which has lasted me for a while, was simply made out 4 or 6 drive way markers made out of fiberglass. If i remember correctly I used four for the base but it gave too much so I added two more for structure. It worked and has lasted a while. The down side is balancing and all that. But I do recommended a blue first. It'll teach you how to thwart off those who get too close to you. I can wield a red without hurting anybody but when they close in it's almost impossible for me to take them down. Haven't seen this in our vets I believe, so they may have a point on training with it.

Sweet thanks guys. Once I have a job and steady income this will all be much easier for me to make every practice I am not working plus afford new mats for weapons. Since I only have my old red from college I am kind of stuck with it. But I appreciate all the tips. Yes I know wood breaks My first was made with a wooden hockey stick, I duct taped the entire stick but when it broke you heard it.
