Valkrulfr, what type of boots/patterns are you looking for? I have a small book that I believe Tandy still carries that has about 20 moc patterns in it. It teaches you how to craft boots to peoples feet, instead of sizes.

I'm looking for something for my character, which is a Scandinavian viking that was living near Dublin before coming to Dagorhir. Something around 880 AD or so, before they were kicked out the first time.
I've seen a few of the pattern books at Tandy, but they are sealed so I couldn't open them and look through them to see if it was something worth getting.
Buying ready made boots are great, but I'd really like to make my own. If you have the name of the book and say it's got what I'm looking for then I will be more than glad to pick it up.

Valk... All the tandy patterns are themes and variations on the same style for the most part... What I was thinking was was to buy thier basic maccasin/boot pattern pack for $10.00 and then modifying the pattern with a tenth century flair... in your case, I think the short boot with modified long side straps that would wrap up the calf to tie at the knee over your pants legs.
I just ordered a pair of "Tramper" boots (short rather than tall) from Minatonka, I plan to cut the fringe in a way that will make them look quite similar to the short boots the crusaders wore.

I've been thinking about the strap idea too. I've been trying to build my own pattern with vinyl, but I can never get them to sit just right. That's why I was asking if anyone knew of any good patterns to get so I can where I'm going wrong. But I'll be heading down to Tandy next week so I just might pick up a pack and let you all know how it goes.

Valkrulfr, the title of the book I suggested is "Craft Manual of North American Indian Footwear". Tis a small beige book, with many different patterns, as well as variations on those patterns. The book teaches you how to make several basic shoes styles, and then walks you through some of the many variations of those styles. I have found it very useful in creating mocs to fit any size foot, and cater to many different tastes, and time periods. Sorry for the long delay in posting, just came across the book while cleaning up my work bench, and remembered this thread... Or, perhaps you could simply visit this thread [ftp]http://www.visi.com/~norseman/viking_shoe.html[/ftp] and find what you need. Hope it helps.
