i was wondering if it would be better to use pvc or a fiberglass rod to make a long red weapon. I wanted to make a glaive and wondered what the best way to do it would be. Also if the fiberglass is better i don't know any where that sells fiberglass rods.

For a glaive I would suggest closet rod, cheap, sturdy, and readily available at any hardware store.

What kind of fiberglass do you mean? If you mean something like a Bandshoppe pole, that's what I'd suggest. They're wonderful for polearms, and I've only ever heard of ONE getting broken. Only problem is, you gotta order in bulk (6 or more) to get the best rate ($11.25). If you can get a bulk order together, these are definitely the way to go. I'd be willing to buy a couple if you need help getting to 6. After that, I would suggest 1" or bigger Schedule 80 PVC. I don't know what exactly Vermin means by "closet rod" but make sure it's not metal (even aluminum). Alric

Bandshoppe poles are ordered online. I've used a few and I must say I love them. How long of a glaive were you wanting? That is the big decider on what material to use.

Four feet you can use about any material for it. You don't want to go smaller, then it won't even be a red. Most gaives I've seen are between 6' and 10' long with most being 8' or just over.

I'd suggest going with a bandshoppe pole then. You'll be much happier in the long run.

i went out and bought a piece of pvc and was planing on making a temperory glaive for the moment. when i was there was this scecial pvc foam that fit over the pipe great. I was wondering if i could use that instead of the camping foam or put one layer over it and be done with it.

The piping insulation (Which is what i think your talking about) Is great for courtesy padding, though i would suggest still putting a layer or two of blue foam over it. The pipe insulation however will NOT be allowed as the striking surface, the padding is just not thick enough

so the insulation with a layer of the blue foam over it would be ok for the striking surface

No, just use that for the courtesy padding.

The pipe insulation can be used for curtousy padding, but it breaks down much faster than blue foam. For a glaive just use blue foam and open cell foam for the striking surface. If your glive is over abvout 5 ft you'll most likely need to put a rod in the pvc or it will flex like crazy and have a decent shot of breaking as well.
