Ok I've read a few post about this but I'm still kind of foggy on the rules here. I was thinking about building a leather harness of sort (2 horizontal rings and 2 vertical straps with buckles) to be a chassis to build off of. Then using chainmail as a sash from one shoulder, across chest, down and around to back. Then faux hide/fur covering the other shoulder and more on the back. I found a post on the national boards: www.dagorhir.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=001345So I'm wondering would this fail because of the chainmail (metal armor having to comprise 2/3 of the whole). Or would I better off to build a leather breast plate and back plate then augment that set up with the fur and chain as "asthetic" add-on's? Any rule pointing or experianced help here appreciated. Thanks, Stubbie the Short

as long as the leather you use is armour grade, the 2/3rds metal rule won't matter. since theres no differences in armour grades in dag

So we can use suede as the supporting layer and add plaques of 2/16" next to each other and it would pass as 3/16"?? Ake
PS:Also the best way for me to meassure leather thickness is a calliper, we have noticed that de ounce system not always gives us an exact meassurement. 1/64"=1 Oz. Ake

Aah, thank you for posting that equation Akeron. That's the first I've seen HINTED at a way to convert oz. to thickness.
And I was asking about the 2/3 metal rule because I was thinking of making the leather harness that would basically be suspenders of leather and then added the faux fur - chainmail - thinner leather to make a coat...if that set up would count as armor.
OR
be better off making a guarenteed 3/16" leather breast / back piece and then adding the fur / chain and it becoming basically decoration.

Thats brigandine works in a variety of way(at least at the cost of realism);speaking to Zaron when he visited PR I had the opportunity to learn and clarify some stuff about armour.Briganding or Coat of plaques is the perfect example....you can use as support cloth/canvas for example(usually the material of chice would be suede leather or degraded leather)and it would be legal if the plaques are made of armor grade metal and/or leather and if these are rivetted on an acceptable pattern and ratio. Thats why my japanese chainmaille pattern passes....1/2"ID 12G. steel rings held together by 14G 1/2" ID brass and/or steel rings.Cloth by itself wont be enough for example, and layering of leather can be tricky. I dont trust the formula(only with 13/15Oz or better)since I have been mislead by poorly educated or fonny salers, the calliper is the best way to go to be sure it is the right thickness. Ake ake
