Genji Tsuzaki
Weapons of choice: Duel short swords, buckler shield.
Garbs: Black sleeveless tunic, white trimming, black samurai pants. Usually goes barefoot, but wear includes boots and/or sandles.
"Rather sunny today, isn't it?" Jai noted to me in our small-talk. I didn't say too much, really. I had too much on my mind.
"Are you alright, Genji? You seem a little... Short of words today. You're always really quick to make conversation?"
As we walked down the path through the forest that she and I had made through many years of friendship, I stopped and turned to her but did not make eye contact.
"Have you ever thought that there might be more out there than just this village, Jai?" "I... Don't know. I can't say I've never thought about it, we all have. But you know the stories just like I do! The outters is just filled with war, violence, crime, all those wicked things that just make life harder!" I looked down at the ground and just stared at my filthy toes.
"We're a peaceful village where everyone gets along just fine." She said with a smile.
"I'm leaving this place" I said, "I can't live the rest of my life as a carpenters son like my dad and his dad before him, and his dad before him. Its a never ending cycle of men who didn't have the balls to see what else there was in life." "Genji..." I turned again to look at her face, but this time I stared directly into her eyes. "My brother can take care of the place just fine. I have to get out there! I'm sorry, Jai. You've always been my best friend, and I'll always remember all your friendship."
I turned around and walked into some weeds and dug a bit into the roots of a tree and pulled out a bag I had hidden for such the occasion.
"I can't stop you... Can I?" She asked me, strangely with still yet the same smile on her face. She knew as well as I did, this is what I wanted. "Take care of yourself, Genji." "I will. Take care of the place for me, will ya? With me gone God knows what kind of trouble those Kakashi kids will get into." We share a laugh and I was on my way, off the trail and into the woods.
I was 15 at the time, 2 years have passed now and I'm on a ship headed across the vast seas to find yet another "new life". I've been to many places, met different people, to my shock at first there were more than just one dominant race on this planet. I've made many friends with Dwarves, Elves, and a few Orcs. But I wouldn't recommend having dinner with an Orc.
I've learned several new trades on my travels, also. I'm not the most skilled tanner you've ever met, to be perfectly honest I can't craft worth a dwarf's height. But a few of the sailors have been helping me with my swordsmanship as I've learned its nearly essential if you want to survive in this world. Though its harder than home - a LOT harder - I've come to cope and enjoy my new life. I would never trade it for that musty old shop.
"See those clouds out there?" "Yeah?" "The winds blowing towards us, and in my experience as a sailor, those clouds are the kind you play a harp above lot too long after being under them."
I took a deep gulp, it felt like I just swallowed my throat itself. It wasn't the first time I had faced danger before, but the feeling of knowing you could die before the next sunrise can chill the coldest heart.
Not too long after the storm had moved in. The waves and wind were the most fierce thing I had ever experienced! I'd only been on a few river boats in my time, this was my first sea-voyage, and I was pretty tense.
I heard the older man I talked to earlier yelling out to me "Grab the lines there, lad! Don't let them go!" I grabbed the wet rope and help on as tight as my hands had strength in them.
"Brace yer'self, lad! We're about to get some real waves coming!"
The ship tossed and turned, left and right, water coming on and off knocking me to the ground with every splash. Thoughts ran through my head about Jai and my parents, why did I ever leave? Now I'm going to die here and I may never see them again...
The next thing I knew, lighting strikes the mast and crashed the rest of the ship. As the whole vessel turned over port side, a giant wave hit and dragged me over board.
I was a pretty good swimmer, but nothing's easy in a storm of that magnitude.
I woke up the next morning on a beach lined with wreckage for at least a hundred yards. So, I started walking. Eventually I came up to some of my stuff, my sword and buckler, a dead sailor with a nice looking under-used tunic, he's not using it? So I took it as well.
A few days and night of traveling. Scavenging for food, there was plenty of fruits on the beach side. Eventually I came up to a road that I followed for some miles before I came to a crossing, one of the signs was in some foreign language I couldn't read, the other said "Mittelmarch".
"They speak English, I guess I'll go that way."
"And that's how I got here." I said to the guy next to me. I'm pretty sure he passed out about five minutes ago, though...
