Dorian Prior- Vampire half-race
Dorian's lineage stems primarily from the more inbred, although sophisticated royal families of Romania. Although his biological father is entirely unknown, his grandsire was rumored by many to be a leader of a substantial vampire coven. Dorian is the offspring of one of the six sons of the aforementioned grandsire, leading to a great deal of inter-family conflict as to who had tainted the bloodline with a peasant girl of the area. In order to protect the child, Dorian's father had the young woman escape to the land of Aggelgorod, though their stay there was to be brief. After two years of relative secrecy, a spy from the Romanian court reported to the coven that the child had been relocated in Aggelgorod. The House sent their response in the form of a blood contract: that both the mother and child must be killed. The spy, a younger recruit, realized the gravity of his orders; that he would be murdering a potential heir to the Court. Nevertheless, on a cold night before the winter solstice, the assassin broke into the fugitive's home. Dorian's mother was struck down defending the child, but the spy couldn't bring himself to murder the toddler whose own blood was more noble than his own. Instead, the spy took the boy with him to the lands of Mittelmarch and Stormhaven. There the boy was raised and eventually accepted into the folds of an elite guild of assassins known as the Sanguine Syndicate, who taught him a variety of battle forms and espionage, but in which he developed a deep passion and expertise in the art of dagger-combat, based mostly around speed and agility rather than raw strength and power.
On the night of his eighteen birthday, a day of important ritual for apprentices, he shed his lowly rank and took on the title of Shadowstalker. For his induction gift, however, he was given a very special blade. The spy had left the dagger that he used to kill the boy's mother to the keeping of the Guildmaster, with instructions to give it to the boy when he felt it was time. The dagger had a unique blood-groove that allowed the user to collect the blood of his foe in an inner vial within the blade, which was often partaken at the conclusion of the battle.
The night of his graduation, Dorian learned of the orchestration of the Romanian court in the murder of his mother and swore vengeance upon the House. Armed with his new weapon, which he simply dubbed "Sanguine" and with his training, he left the Guild in order to test his own mettle. Although he longs for the day of his return to the Romanian court, and the undoubted massacre that would follow, for now he spends his time in Mittelmarch and the surrounding countryside. He has sworn no permanent allegiance yet, but could be induced to at some point.
EDIT: I was getting a little annoyed at the unoriginal aspects (you know, the Oblivion references). I figured it's still early enough to change some things. Most of the story is the same, but the last name, assassin's rank, assassin's guild, and weapon's name has changed. Most of these are now either entirely new, or pulled from the novel I am trying to write.
