Sons of Ymir
Nichtmar visited the Silvertree in hopes of seeking knowledge. The Silvertree had helped him save his soul from darkness. He had hoped with the wisdom of the tree he could learn of his people’s past. He sat leaning against the tree as it told him wild stories of heroes and villains. He told him that some know him as Yggdrasill or the Tree of Life. Silvertree told him how people see things how they choose, and that is why we all seem so different. He then went on to tell Nichtmar of his people.
Long ago in a land of ice and harsh winds called Niflheim, the giant Ymir created the frost giants. South of these lands was the warm and lush Muspelheim. These frost giants, also known as jotuns or ogres, waged war with the southern realm. This went on for years until Buri, the first god, would be revealed from the melted salty ice blocks of Auohumla and would birth the gods, Odin, Vili, and Ve. These first gods would destroy Ymir and create Midgard from his giant body. Two of Ymir’s decedents survived, Bergelmir and his wife. Odin took their first son in the form of an eagle to create the wind. Odin gave mercy to their kind and sent them to an island in a realm called the Land Between the Land where their kind could not bother man anymore.
Bergelmir and his wife settled on the island and bred this new world. Years had passed and descendent after descendent spread creating their own separate cultures. The Island would finally be named Torranmar, for the three tribes that were formed. The Tor are chaotic warriors using club and stone as their weapon. The volcanic mountains became their home. The Ran are harvesters of bamboo. They are the biggest threat to the Tor. They are organized and fortified in the forest. They always seek knowledge and trade with outlanders. Then there is the Mar, they are peaceful fisherman. They use spear and net to fish along the coast. They constantly trade with the Ran and seek them for protection from the Tor.
Loki must have been behind the irony of a Viking ship losing its way to this island. The Vikings attacked and took what they could until the ogres worked together to force them out. It was this attack that formed a pact between the three tribes. Torranmar now stands together, although peace could break at any moment. Your species is a volatile lot.
The Silvertree was finished with his history lesson and sent Nichtmar back home to think about what he had learned. Nichtmar thought of many things. Like the connection to his friends Wulfgar and Oron. They are sons of Odin and Nichtmar and his people are sons of Ymir.
