Specifically stabbing tips. I'm working on a spear for Olympics, using Scion's tutorial on the main Dagorhir site, and am having trouble with the padding. The rulebooks aren't very clear on this issue. What will the Weapons checkers be looking for in stab tips? currently i can compress the open cell foam all the way down to the closed cell with minimal force. while squishy, it is firm. I did a stab test using my foot, striking it rather forcefully multiple times. no pain, no bruises, etc. I really just want to make sure that i'm not going to show up with a weapon i can't use.
Thoughts?

What specific foam are you using for the open cell? Old couch cooshin? Jo-Ann green foam? NERF/POOF ball?
In stabbies you're looking for: - How it hits, your underlying foam has a great deal to do with this too. - How the foam recovers after a hit. Basically if it returns to shape immediately after a strike. - Making sure it doesn't fold over and allow strikes from just the underlying foam. Not much of a problem with spears.
If you're going strictly by that tutorial, you aught be fine. It doesn't mention it, but make sure you cut the point off the ball, down so your "flat" spot is greater than 2.5" across. As stabbing points can't pass more than 1/2" through a 2.5" diameter checking template hole.
Also that your haft padding is 1/3" your over-all length, under the head. 2 layers blue around is optimal but just a layer of pipe insulation around it is usually fine too. Just make sure your split is fully closed and you can't feel core through it.

Ok, the foam I'm using is a Poof ball. when it hits, it's shape comes back almost immediately. It was a round ball, not a foot ball like the tutorial said, so I don't believe it will be a problem. I will double check though. the base of the spear head is rolled blue camp.
The haft is padded a little more than 1/3 using pool noodle. since its not a strike surface it should last for quite a while, though not as long as blue camp. the spear also has shield hooks right below the head, made completely from blue camp. I used the specs for blue weapons to make sure they'd be safe

From the sound of it, you should be good dude. Would have to actually see and test it to tell you for sure but I'm not seeing a problem with it.
You will probably have to replace teh pool noodle fairly quickly, it breaks down really fast when impacted. I know it doesn't seem like a spear shaft would take much of a beating but once you start using it to deflect swings, move other spears / shields and from various legs and armor rubbing against it, they get beat up a bit.
Did you sew cloth cover your pool noodle or juse use duct tape?

It hasn't been covered yet. i was waiting to see if i was going to have to change much. I know a few tricks from amtgard that'll help make the pool noodle last. i'm thinking of using athletic tape to cover it. it'll make it a little heavier, but not enough to negatively effect the performance. btw thanks for you help Stubbie

No problem man. After you log some time on that POOF spear, give this a gander: www.dagorhir.com/forums/index.php?topic=18500.0 Obviously can read prior to such but you should get the feel for it with the bigger one first. This makes a sexier, much lower profile spear head. Although you mentioned your POOF has a shield hook, so lower profile may not help you that much; depends on your style I guess.
