You'll need 3/4" pvc if you want it to be red. Some blue camping foam, some pipe insalation for curtousy padding, and probably some open cell foam. Axes are alot harder to make than swords. I can go over some designs with you next time, and I'll bring an axe I have half finished in an experimental design for you to see.

I would suggest starting with a basic sword to help you get accustomed to foam-smithing's little intricacies.

That's good advice, Berrok. This axe design uses a bit of computer foam for the striking surface. Zaron has a bunch of good computer foam, so get some from him. Alric

if zaron doesnt mind i'd like to talk to him about it on saturday

I don't mind at all. In fact I'll bring a couple of axe designs that are not finished to let you have a look.

hay i have a idea for a hand Axe and it is not top heavy at all i actually know if i make it i will have to add 4 oz. or so for it to be legal. What u need is a golf club shaft which is what i am looking for right now but ca find any worth buying. Double sided tape i think is best for this weapon. duck tape. camp pad, sock and hockey tape. so what you do is measure the length of the shaft. than cut two peaces that long by 2 inches or what ever the minimum width for a striking edge. than put them o opposite sides of the shaft and pinch the sides together. then cap the top.then on the edges put a strip of duck tape to make sure the fome will not come apart. then add five layers to be the Axe head on one side put a sock over it and tape the bottom and pommel and a light non top heavy hand Axe Ps spray paint bad for makeing symbols

that depends on the paint Berrok. I don't really get your design, but that's cool, I know the best way I have seen an axe made is the sandwich method, and if you wanted a double bit, it's not much different. for a learge red axe I would recommend a stabby as well as some of the computer type foam, about 1" or so, along the blade edges. Oh, and the minimum blade width is 1.25"
Also I cannot stress enough that double sided tape is crap, IMO, DAP or Super77 when used right are the way to go, I use both for different reasons.

o i was trying to make a dragoon symbole on something useing spray paint it didnt work so far i have made almost all weapons from tape and they have survied as long as the core where the 77 glue broke and didt work and i hate dap because of fumes and it takes forever

You must have patience grasshoppa. DAP is a binding force that connects the soul of a weapon to its strength and center. Learn its ways, fix/build other weapons while it dries, and work in a well ventalated area. This is the key to mastering the zen of DAP... *cough* Ugh..fumes must be gettin to me

Berrok, do you realize how old some of Dhugal's weapons are, and what he uses to glue everything together?
I would say 90% or better of all his weapons have been made strictly with Super77!! Primarily he uses Dap for shields, red weapons, and multiple cored weapons (he glues the cores together.)
Dap is much easier to use when you put it into an empty squeeze bottle.... we use a dish detergent bottle. When done right, the mess is non existent. I actually learned that trick at the Olympics this year.
