Dhugal makes weapons too!! I know he is making a boat load of javelins for Lord Freewynd and crew as we speak. I agree with Zaron though, it is best if everyone at least knows how to make the weapon so repairs and such can be made at events with minimal confusion. ;D

I love making weapons. I think it's almost as much fun as fighting.

Building is a lot more fun when you don't have a lot of cash to throw around Plus, if you get good at it, you can customize and repair and keep weapons useful for years. Considering the effort it takes and the simplicity of the materials, most weapons vendors' prices are a ripoff. You can make anything with practice and 5-20 bucks. Do NOT try to make a Klingon Bat'leth though. Unfortunately it does not work. Can anyone think of another market where vendors show you how to make their products from scratch for free and then sell them in the same place?

OK, Also, I read the rules again carefully. It says no weapon may have a spiked or bladed pommel. I don't think this applies to double-ended weapons like my halberd because there isn't really a pommmel. The pommel would be at the fulcrum in the middle of the handle, theoretically, but it's double ended so the 2 theoretical pommels cancel each other out.

a halberd can't be a double ended weapon though Atticvs. Only quarter staves can, do you have both ends padded at least 18" in a cylindrical fashion (like a simple club). If not then it is an illegal weapon.

I do have 2' cylindrical padding on both sides. Maybe it is legal...

I brought this up on the Dag boards. Follow the discussion there for better explanations of the rules.

I'm willing to give a sewing lesson to ANYONE who would like to try, especially if it means I don't have to sew them anymore ;D

I was actually thinking about how one would make a bat'leth the other day.

I used to have a bat'leth, but broke it, and turned it into a pair of handaxes, if you used a decent core you could probably make one, but I wouldn't build one until you have alot[/i] of foamsmithing experience.

I had a bow that consisted of a basic PVC pipe with a string attached to both ends. I left it in my car throughout Rag (because it only has a 10 lb draw) and it was constantly heated from the sun beating down on my dark blue car and now it's stuck in a curve. It must have softened the pipe and kept it in that shape, which should be good for making a bat'leth, which Rook can tell you is very effective in battle (I brought one to practice that had a straight core and it broke, but not before we found it to be extremely useful). But yeah, I think I'm going to make a second attempt.

LOL.... Dhugal left some Javelins in his car overnight and the core by the head of it drooped... He was most definitely not a happy camper!!!!!!! Have you tried maybe heating it back up the other way and maybe getting the core to straighten itself out?

I have/had a bow that my dad made... it broke though... but I could probably make another one.... I'm going to try that since I don't have 30-40 dollars to spend on a bow.... my bow was pretty good too... arrows went a decent distance. But I didn't take care of it and it cracked. Dad cut a small tree with a knife and peeled the bark off with a knife until it was smooth and then made notches in it and wraped some rope around the middle. Yay homemade bows n_n

By next Rag, I should have a PVC bow that will actually be useful in battle. The other one was 5' long and had a draw weight of 10 lbs. Pretty good, but not enough, since you have to half-draw at 20 feet and at half draw this thing won't even fire 20 ft. So, I made a new one that's only 4' long, kind of a shortbow version, and I think the poundage in this one is more like 15-20. It's using half-inch PVC with thick walls, but one might be even stronger using 3/4" PVC. I'll keep experimenting with different types and maintenance and maybe post on the Dag boards about it.
