so anyways, in my immense boaredom and absence from regularly attending practices, i got tired of useing axes, so i tore them apart My blue edhellen has become a wickedly fast short sword. The red edhellen, has now become a red/green glaive. I think that it turned out rather well, although, a really short glaive, so maybe we should just call it a O'Naginata. lol who knows. I'll let you guys decide. I fixed teh bag on the flail, so the foam won't be falling out for a good time now if my stiches hold, which they normally do. I was beating it around in my house and it worked fine, and im sure that i will/have/can abuse it more than anyone else. Im so hard on flails. And a new speed bat, but from useing it so far, i can't really tell if it is speedy. If i may quote Ejike, i think i made a slow bat. lol Oh, and i made a new skirt, hopefully soon, i'll have a new shirt as well. Rune

I'm off to Alric's after finishing lunch here to build my own set of 5' naginatas (it's cheaper to buy pipe in 10' sections...like, 1.54 for 10' or 1.88 for 5'...crazy). Obviously I lose a little on reach in comparison to some of you other guys' reds but hopefully I can make up for that with speed. Another guy in our unit (and hopefully another might be joining) did martial arts for several years and has been itching for a bo staff...this could be a nice substitute so I'm probably going to give him the second one.
Hopefully I'll be coming to Mittelmarch practices soon!

If you want it double ended, You have to have them cylindrically padded, at least 18" on each side.

Staves are perfectly legal if they really want one. Well then they can build it themselves.....just like Stormhaven does not currently endorse the use of flails

what!! thats crazy flails are a major part of this game. lol, buthey, whatever you prefer. lol.. all i know is that i love to fight against a flail for they are very easy to beat, and using them isn't all that bad eathier. I just cant punch a shield with it. lol.

It's mostly a joke Alric, Brude and I have...we're going to build a few mostly for the purpose of practicing against a flail so we know how to fight against them. I much prefer a weapon without moving parts. We just don't actively encourage our people to use them...

You definatly need to learn a flail, it is much easier to learn to defend against something you know how to use. To use a martial arts example, you learn styles even if they are unsuited for you just to learn what they can do and how to beat them.
One thing to remember on staves though is that one of the major strengths of a staff is that they generate alot of force due to their lengths. In our game where any solid hit counts they loose alot of advantages. It's the same reason why you rarely see the high guard used on red weapons. It's one of those things that doesn't translate into our rule set well.
That being said I encourage anyone to try out anything they think they'll have fun with, just trying to give a realistic expetation of the performance of them.

so, anyways, after Fridays practice, and fighting up in Hebron on Sunday, the new little galive, Naginata, whatever you wan tot call it, is well, amazing. I love if, and it works really good. It even hits soft, but hard enough to deliver a red hit. WOOHOO. And its so fun to have a weapon that stabbs. It adds a whole seperate diminsion to how you fight. It's something that is new to me, and i like it. lol anyways, between that, and getting to fight in my new skirt, my recent buildings and modifications, have turned out fantastic. It a lot of fun fighting in a skirt. It just kind of flows around with you whe you fight. Not to mention the nice little breeze every once in awhile. lol Well, that is my rambling for the day. !! Later. Rune
