Yes, big kudos to Cathan. If that wall hadn't gone down, I don't think we would have won.

Ha. I'm scrambling to make decent garb as of tonight. The tunic I have already is WAY too heavy, and I've been told I don't pass out very well... It won't be spectacular, but it's something. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

'Blast!', thought Dorian. This supposed "knight" was more of a fool than he had thought. Damn the Syndicate! They had sent on a foolish manhunt for reassignment, only to be insulted and ignored.
As the ogre brushed past him, Dorian felt the anger within him swell. His face drew back, the canines of his teeth gleaming white. The air and sunlight became heavier, intolerable. Reaching within his case, he found one of his few remaining supply vials of blood, downing it with a gulp and smashing the bottle on the path. He rounded to face Nichtmar.
"Listen here, ogre!"
Before he could begin, a impressive-looking knight rode up the path, and addressed Nichtmar with a thrown sword. As their conversation began, it became clear to Dorian, that this "ogre-knight" was truly what he seemed to be, albeit somehow corrupted at heart.
Before he departed with the knight, Nichtmar provided a lead: Find Oof in the sewers of Mittelmarch.
Thus informed, Dorian watched as the pair rode off. He hissed inwardly as he saw a divine light envelope the riders and spirit them off to a realm unknown.
Dorian stood alone in the gate of Kyoden, assessing the situation.
'Another manhunt then. But this time, they'd better give me something to do...' He thought, walking back into the Kyoden. He'd do his best to replenish his supply in the Kyoden's infirmary, then depart for Mittelmarch in the evening.

Quivers

Post by Dorian Prior on May 19, 2009 10:45:49 GMT -5
I know some of you guys hate archers, but.... I was wondering what would be the best way to make a decent quiver. I have about 8 arrows just sitting in a drawstring bag right now, and it tips and dumps them at the slightest chance it gets (which is every few seconds). I'm going to Dick's today to see if I can find a big enough factory-made quiver, but I'm not holding my breath. Otherwise, I think I'll have to basically cover a tall plastic waste-bin or woven basket with cloth and strap it to my side. Anybody else have a better idea? Zalos?

Sorry it's taken so long for me to respond to you. My internet has been very screwy recently and it won't let me stay online for more than a minute or two.
Anyways, I want you to know that I'm interested in some black leather armor. Greaves and bracers are a definite go for now, but I want to know what kind of deal you can make with me for a cuirass as well. If you tell me what kind of size specifications you need, I can get them for you. I'll try to send you a PM with the kinds of ideas I have in mind for how I'd like the armor to look and the possible emblems I might use.
Also, I have a friend who would like a quote on very simple leather bracers and greaves, separate and combined costs. No frills, really. Just standard brown leather.
Thanks! I look forward to doing business with you!

The shrouded figure had waited for the ogre to depart his companions before making his approach. It seemed odd to him, to hear the ogre be referred to as a knight. He had never heard of such an accomplishment among the more brutish races. It was clear from the start however, that these people… this place… it was altogether different from anywhere he had ever ventured. The memory of being borne into this realm by the great grey mists had not left him yet. He merely wondered if he would ever be able to return… The scene was a vivid one indeed; the ogre beating the armored dwarf to waking, though not for very long it seemed. The powerful samurai leader had intervened on the dwarf’s behalf, sparing him from what surely would have been a swift, painful execution. Another prisoner had tasted the ogre’s steel before it was over though, his crimson armor stained almost indiscernibly with blood. He had seen such armor before; the men who had guarded the now nearly decimated caravan wore it. The forest scouts he had encountered as well; their conviction in their Empire was strong, but they were only men. He could taste their mortality in their blood, cheap and dispensable like so many others before them. Still, there was no honor in slaying prisoners and certainly unbefitting a knight. Traitors though… The ogre, his attack defeated, pounded with vindictive fury towards the gates of the kyoden; his brown robe, stained with dwarven blood and still covered in frost from the Oriental’s sorcery. Anger. Unbridled rage. Feelings the hooded man empathized on a deep level. Indeed, there was little else that the man understood as well as he did this. Betrayal, confusion, remorse, vengeance. This was his existence. Perhaps it was because of this empathy that steeled his resolve to make his presence known. “Sir Nichtmar? I simply overheard your name, we have not met before. I just wanted to extend my sympathy to you. From where I hail, those who interfere with the judgment of a traitor become traitors themselves, and are dealt with just as swiftly.” The hate had not left Nichtmar’s gaze. The man knew that if he didn’t get to the point quickly enough, he might endure whatever vengeance the ogre still had left in him. And without weapons, he’d easily tear him limb from limb… “My name is Dorian Prior. I am a professional assassin, trained since my childhood by the Sanguine Syndicate. I doubt you have heard of them, as they lie beyond the mists. I come to you simply because of this: I have seen and heard of the turmoil these… Jovians… have caused. As part of my final duties to my guild, I am to assist in ridding this land of their existence and push them back from whence they came. Many contracts have fallen through and our duties are becoming scarcer by the day. I was told to find you specifically.” He paused briefly, his gaze becoming hard and his tone taking on a level of disgust. “I am different from some of your other allies. While honor may be of some importance to me, petty morality is not. I care not for the teeming masses of citizens; they are simply a large flock of sheep, tended to by shepards of steel armor and silver-tongues. I also care not for these Jovians. Men who would march simply because they are told to march, blindly believing in a cause that escapes their comprehension, and who would ultimately lay down their lives in such a meaningless manner.” He stepped closer. “I care for two things: order and justice. Not righteousness, not idealism, but pragmatism. Without these, I become obsolete. Without “justice”, people would seek vengeance on their own, not through the discreet use of the Syndicate. Without order, there is anarchy, making our marks harder to find and ever-alert. While the Jovians might seek these virtues, it would be temporary and reckless. So you see, we have a mutual interest: removing the Jovians from this land. I would only ask that you might consider my use for specific tasks, rather than for me to continue my aimless wandering of the wilderness and disposing of any Jovians I find. Its rather… unsatisfying work…” Dorian awaited a response, still fearful of any retaliation for the delay he had caused. OOC: This is my first RP post, so if I got anything wrong, please PM me and I will be happy to fix it. It's a great story so far, and I hope I can do something to contribute to it.

Thanks Zig. I'll check it out. Seems like a pretty good deal (cheaper than what I'd be paying MC at least).
Anybody else have some input? I'm looking for multiple opinions here...

Thank you, Nichtmar. Carneth has been suggesting that I re-write this later on in the form of "flash-back" narration (much like the one he did, which was FANTASTIC). If I have the time, I might do that. We shall see...

Since someone else has started it up again, I think I'll write one too.
OOC info.
1) What inspired you to create your character? For anyone that doesn't know already, it was mostly pulled from The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood guild. With some influence from Altair from Assassin's Creed and Thief: Deadly Shadows. I've always found stealth to be incredibly fascinating and efficient, especially when you're using it to silently eliminate high-profile targets...
2) What inspired the name? 'Dorian' was taken from the book, "The Portrait of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde. 'Prior' is the last name of one of the main villains in a novel I'm working on . 3) Is your character particularly good or evil and why? He will initially be rather evil in nature (though not [i]extremely evil). Eventually, he will round out to be a fairly neutral character, mostly because of his decision to aid Mittelmarch against the Jovian invasion.
4) If you could give your character a special ability of some sort what would it be? Almost nothing. Maybe minor dark healing magic. Nothing more. I want my character to be known for his skill, not for his magical prowess. I've always had a slight degree of disdain for heavily magic-accented characters.
5) If your character had a theme song, what song would that be? "We Suck Young Blood" by Radiohead. Easily.
6) If price didn't matter, what would your dream armor (or garb) be? Jet-black, form-fitting leather armor. Bracers, greaves, small cuirass (no skirt), and thick boots (similar to what Gron wears).
7) In a short summary, can you describe your character? A highly-skilled, almost unmatched, professional assassin. He is half-human and half-vampire, the latter of which he keeps hidden from everyone as best he can.
8) What is your charcters goal in life (this could also be subtext for a quest he or she is on)? To return to the Romanian court, discover his true father, then systematically murder everyone else in the substantial vampire coven there.
9) Would your character ever consider not fighting? Dorian thrives on violence, so any state of open-war, with Generals and other high-profile targets around, is his best setting. He has no problem with killing whatsoever. Only later does he begin to regret killing innocents.
In character info.
10) If you could, what position would you be in your army (archer, beserker, horserider, whatever)? I am not some meat-headed, drunkard soldier, fighting under the orders of some incompetent general. I am a professional assassin, and consider myself above the "mob-mentality" of such unskilled barbarians.
11) What makes you happy? Slitting the throat of a highly acclaimed war hero or lord. There is no other experience like it.
12) What makes you angry? When a target gets away, or receiving mandatory orders from the Syndicate. Also any long-lived races, like Elves. I detest such things...
13) What equipment do you have ready when on a long voyage? My daggers, two shortswords, my dark garb, and a few vials of blood in case there isn't any to be found nearby...
14) What gear do you bring to a large battle? Same as above.
15) Do you wear any jewelry? The Band of Obedience, given to me by my guild. While it distinguishes me as a high-ranking assassin, it also helps to ensure that I follow any orders that I receive. The band grows tighter over time, if my duties are not completed. If I ever refuse to do what I am mandated, the band will crush my wrist, crippling me and forcing my retirement. I would be hunted down and killed soon after.
16) Are you afraid of anything? Were-men. Unnatural beasts. Chill me to the core.
17) Have you ever killed a Man? Many.
18) Have you ever killed a beast? When I'm in need of food or am attacked.
19) Have you killed any from the other races? A number of elves, a few dwarves, and a goblin chieftain once.
20) Who was your closest friend? I have none. Only the gods I serve.
21) Do you have any enemies? Immortals. I hate them, though we share the trait... I do my best to ensure that death is the eventual fate of all beings, including myself. Also, the Romanian court from which I have descended from.
23) Are you close with your family? No. My father is an unknown count, and my mother was murdered when I was only a toddler. I have no siblings.
24) How do you act in a tavern? I use the tavern as a place to pick up loose information on my assignments. I mostly listen.
25) How do you act around a campfire? I usually am contemplating what my next action will be in regards to my assignment. If not that, the vengeance that I plan to wreck on the Romanian court one day.
26) Do you play an instrument? No.
27) Do you worship anyone/anything? Sometimes I gives thanks to Kanchelsis, but I only openly praise Sheol, the god of death and mortality, and Szereth, the god of agony and suffering.
28) Do you have a job? Professional assassin.
29) Did you have a happy childhood? I only knew the instruction of the guild, which took me in as a toddler, and raised me to be what I am today.
30) What will you be like in 5 years? A better-equipped and seasoned fighter.
31) What will you be like in 50 years? By then, the Romanian court will be massacred by my hand, and my only goal I otherwise might have is to continue to end the lives of "immortals" as best I can. It is my duty to Sheol.
32) What is your favorite food and drink? Chicken and ale. In sparing amounts, of course.
33) What food and drink do you consume most often? Whatever wildlife I manage to kill. Though I am a vampire, I would never consider devouring the flesh of a fallen mortal enemy.

Now that I'm finally starting to build my own weapons (took long enough I'm sure...) : My two upcoming daggers will be named Sorrow and Sanguine. And I haven't fully decided yet, but my two blues may be called Sheol and Szereth. (my personal gods of death/mortality and agony, respectively.)
